Maybe it's just me, but I get geniunely annoyed when people refer to games imported from Japan as "JAP" games. Have people on the Internet gotten so lazy that they're willing to use a racial slur instead of just typing the extra two letters to spell "Japan"? If that's the case, couldn't you just type "JPN" instead? Yeesh.

It just makes me glad nobody imports games from Niger, Africa.

Hey, if the Jap's can put JAP on products they make, then why care?

I just use "J" as there aren't that many other "J-" countries.

the 2 Japanese guys over at the Japanese mall always other me if i want to order any "Jap" games or if i pick out and anime they ask if i want the US/chinese/ or "Jap" DVD or whatever. Jap this or Jap that they both say, I never thought anything of it. And they like me, i correct their engrish that they sometimes post.

I always say Jp, but when I say it, I have to say either Jap or Japanese. Usually I just say "import".

This is the thing. We're all worried about using "Jap" as a slur, when we merely using it as a shortening, and the Japanese themselves use it anyhow. Personally I've used "Jap", "Japanese", "JPN" or "NTSC-J" in reference to games from the land of the rising sun. Generally I've settled on the latter two for more use now...

Yeah, welll. Lots of black people call each other nigger -- do you call them that, especially when they're strangers?

Ugh. I NEVER use that word, unless if quoting Chappelle's Show (As he uses it for pretty much everything... for those who don't know, Dave Chapelle is a black comedian who is always either making fun of white people or black people. He's very funny, but uses "nigger" as every other pronoun). It is weird that that term has almost come into being "ok" to say...

I use "USA" shorthand for United States and "ENG" short for England...so what?

The only time one should really take offense to the use of the phrase "JAP" is when it is being blatantly used in a insulting manner.

When talking about imports, I just say they're Japanese stuff. Doesn't bother me to type that out.

Hmm, some folks at another forum I go to discussed this.

I've never run into a situation where it offended somebody...but I wouldn't use it. For MD scans I use "mdj_" and then the rest of the filename, if I just need to signify that a game's from Japan I write "Japanese," if space permits (i.e. online listings). Never usually an issue.

I guess my offbeat point was that there are times when it's okay to use certain words, and times when it's not. Living in Japan, I find it painful to hear when people write it. Has a lot ot do with my surroundings though. I know they (usually) mean no harm by it... just seems a bit... errr.... backwoods hick to me.

No offense to any backwoods rednecks that might be here.

what's actually WORSE, i'd say are the folks who walk into game shops and ask for "those chinese games" when they mean japanese, and when you correct them, they respond with "chinese, japanese, whatever.".. :o trust me, 3 years in game store hell, and it happened a LOT. ah, nothing like good ol' american ignorance, lol... x_x

None taken! LOL I'm actually from a whole state of backwoods hicks (Oregon)...most everyone in the area was like that. Either way, IMO "Jp" is the way to type it. As for SAYING it....usually either import or Japanese import.
