View Full Version : Shortest Genesis game you have played

This would have to be The Terminator for me. It's an excellent game, and very close to the film, but it only takes me 15 minutes to blow through! At least the premature ending of the game is compensated by the fair challenge and no continues. Besides, I never judge a game by its length. The less time for one game, the more time for others. ;)

So, the shortest Genesis game you've played; what be it?

I have to agree - The Terminator, hands down. It could have used a few more stages, y'know?

Super Mario Bros. 2 USA. I can beat this game in around 20 mins or so using the warps. I need to tape myself doing a speed run.

Straight through, I would have to say Gunstar Heroes for the Genny. Maybe that is just because I wanted it to be longer. ;)

LOL!!!! ah, memories...

when this game was released, my younger brother was all hopped up about it so much that he chose this for his birthday present over a lot of other titles, even after reading a review that said the game was too short. we both hopped on a bus, and then another bus transfer up to corner distributors (before they moved and when they still sold to retail customers), where i gave him one last chance to change his mind (target earth or arcus odyssey were my suggestions).

he insisted, so we paid the money, took the game home (2 buses again), and proceeded to dive into the gameplay. 45 minutes later (which included dying and continuing about 8 or 9 times, he's sitting there with this pissed off look on his mug, and i'm laughing my ass off because i couldn't believe how short the game was, and how cheap the last 1/3 of the game got. he was mad as hell at me for about a minute, then he ended up rolling on the floor cracking up as well at the absurdity of it all- a movie game shorter than the film it was based on, and it took us LONGER to go buy the game and come back than it did to actually play it! "coat moves really well" indeed... LOL

McDonald's Treasureland Adventure. Really short and easy. Makes a nice quickplay at least.

Back to the Future 3. All you do is ride a horse and die in 1 min. I'm assuming that it's the end of the game because I deemed it impossible to get any further.

Mortal Kombat 1 was very short....or maybe iŽd played it too much in the arcades? ;)

Centurion Defender of Rome is a pretty short game. I play it every so often and beat it in a few hours. Very cool strategy game that I'd recommend to all.

Altered Beast. I couldn't buy another game when I bought the Genesis, and I knew Altered Beast was going to be incredibly easy. I actually think I intentionally played badly just to stretch the life of the game a little bit before I clobbered the hell out of it. But then my friends came over, who were the more agressive type, and of course they beat the game in 20 minutes or something.

The Terminator is an honorable mention, though. I never beat it but I knew it only had 4 levels. 4 really good-looking levels, but only 4 levels just the same!

Did terminator have just 4 levels? :eek 2: that sounds short!

About Risk: I agree with that opinion, the computer has beat me only ONCE in risk..its way easy, as the computer is kinda dumb most of the time

I actually thought Castlevania Bloodlines was a little too short and easy. It doesn't seem to have the length of Super Castlevania IV or the difficulty of Dracula X. Still a good game though. :)

Actually, this raises a question, I used to rented this game WAAY back in the day and can remember getting to stage 3 (and having fun doing it), having not been able to find it ANYWHERE since I downloaded a ROM of it for nostalgia sake and experienced the same trouble you just mentioned... is there not an emulator that can run that ROM correctly or is it supposed to be that unweildly and fast? if so how did i EVER get anywhere in it when I was 11????

kage ki (i think that was the title) fists of steel, is very short and easy. i would have been very dissappointed if i had paid full price for it back in the day, got it home and beat it without even dying in hardly any time.

No, it seriously just goes that fast. I have the cart at home and while I love the movie I hate the game!

I think it's sorta like Simon, You have to memorize the pattern....but I think it would take about 5 hours to get it right or something. Who knows, it's a pitiful excuse for a game.

The hack of the japanese Chip and dale game with the Mario and Luigi was probably the shortest for me. If you removed the save state aspect and put the time together it took me only bout half an hour.

After reading the above posts I decided to pull out The Terminator and give it a play (I'd only played it once before). After I figured out how to get through the first level, I blasted through the second level, and died in the third level (the police station). I decided to give it another try and I beat the whole game in about 30 minutes. Damn, that is a short game. There isn't even a boss to fight at the end. :o

Ecco Jr. To its credit though it does have more than 4 levels, and you can be an orca!

I could use another easy game to boost my confidence whenever Hellfire beats my ass down though, so ill be makin a shopping list from this thread :o

The Great Waldo Search.

If you play the whole thing from beginning to end, it takes about 15 minutes to beat.

If you start the game on the hard level, you go and click on Waldo and you beat the game. Game over, 10 seconds. He's in the same place every time too. Great replay value.

I hear ya. I'm doing this thing where I actually finish a game before I start to play another but man... this game was just too much. I tried at least 50 times but never got through the first stage.
I think even 1 minute/play is pushing it a bit, it was more like seconds to me.
Damn I hate the game!

Mickey's Ultimate Challenge.
I threw it in for the first time, and started on easy.
They were'nt kidding.
Probably about 5 minutes. WTF?
It's notably longer on different difficulty settings, though.

I forgot ... there's also that Sega Genesis Barney game. Not that I think a Barney game should be chock full of incredibly difficult puzzles or anything, but my kid beat it ... right after he turned 2.

World of Illusion: 32 minutes

Double Dragon: 25 Minutes

Art Alive: 10 minutes ( I consider coloring that damn haunted house picture with out mistakes "beating the game", also, I just REALLY wanted to put a third game here...)
