Please, discuss. (I think the theme-of-the-week idea is good.)
Did you ever watch it? If so, what'd you like about it? Personally, I enjoyed the music. It was true to the games, in my barely-educated opinion. The music made watching the cartoon feel like a video game. It's too bad the animation was so... Well, it was econo-animation.
Is it still on the airwaves? I remember watching it about a year ago on Cartoon Disney.

I remember back when it debuted, they had two different cartoons. One was on syndication and it was pretty much comedy themed. The other was shown saturday mornings on ABC(?) and it was a little more seriously themed (for lack of a better word).
There is a new Sonic cartoon that airs on FOX on Saturday mornings, it appears to be anime-themed. I haven't watched much of it.

Yes, I was about to ask which one he meant as well. It sounds like he is discussing the comedic syndicated version. That's the one I saw more than the others. It was alright but nothing to rave on. I saw the ABC one once and I was a little lost on the plot because it was half way into the second season. I think the ABC version was based off the Archie comic. Haven't seen more than a minute of the new one.

Well, I haven't seen the old one for any decentr legnth of time, but I have seen numerous episodes of the new show, Sonic X, on FOX. It is heavy on the anime style, but I think that it fits the gang quite well. It conveys their unique attitudes and is easy on the eyes-much unlike the Archie-style one.
Isn't there a DVD out of the old Sonic show? I swear I saw one last weekend. It's by the same people that did the Mario and Zelda ones.

They screwed up the dubbing in Sonic X. Sonic had a deeper voice in the sub version and from what I can remember in the dubbed version Sonic's voice was really high pitched.

I never really liked the old comedy themed show that aired on weekday mornings. What the hell was with the chili dogs in that show? Since when does Sonic eat tons of chili dogs? Oh, and Robotnik looked like a complete idiot too. I seem to remember the Saturday morning show was better.

first off it was a travesty that they didn't bring back jameel white for the role...
second of all...uh there's nothing wrong with chili-dogs
personally I prefered the campier version because it actually had tales.
they released vhs of select episodes for the campier show but that's about it

The ABC one was on VHS too. My pal Steve who was obsessed with Sonic for a good long while, and still is a little I hear, had a tape or too. He never did explain the white stains on the box. hmmmm.

Back in the day it used to be on in my area on Fox TV at like 530 or 6 and since my dad always had to wake up early for work he would tape it for me and then as I was getting ready for school I would watch it. I wish I still had them all taped instead of taping over them when I was done watching it. Oh well, it was a great show to watch and I think for a cartoon it really fit in with the theme of the video games.

Ok, the Comedy based one was ok. Not great though. The Serious based one was pretty good. The new one on FOX, what I've seen of it, sucks bad. I prefer the new Kirby right back at ya show. But on the Mario Bros. DVD that I own there is a bonus episode of a Sonic show I never saw on air. It had him a pink hedgehog and a green one. They were all related. And they all played insturments, and that was how they attacked Robotnic. I'm pretty sure it was made in the 80s or real early 90s, because the pink hedgehog plays a keytar and those didn't stay around long. But Sonic was the only fast one. This show really blew a thick one.

The weekday one was sweet, if only for the fact it had Scratch and Grounder. The main failing to the weekend one was the fact that all the new characters were pretty lame. Robotnik was badass though.
Sonic X is sweet, one of the best shows out right now. And we dare not speak of Sonic Underground :eek 2:

I love the old Sonic cartoons and the new one. Even though I think it's kind of odd on the new one how they're all suddenly hanging out with humans. I'd forgotten about the chilidog thing...ah, those were the days! I went over to Amazon to see if the Saturday AM one ever came out on DVD; no luck there but did you know there was a Sonic movie?

The only thing I have to add is that Steve Urkel was the voice for Sonic in one of the series. LOL
That and I have 4 VHS Sonic tapes that I'm trying to trade off. :D

I thought the "comedy" show was amazingly stupid. The animators seemed to have a thing for Robotnik, as no episode of the show went by without the mad doctor bending over at least once, revealing his almost cavernous buttcrack. If that wasn't disturbing enough for you, just watch Scratch work that plunger at the beginning of every episode! The rapid up and down motion coupled with the fact that his tounge is sticking out seems to suggest that capturing Sonic is the LAST thing on his mind.
