View Full Version : Import Saturn - how finicky are the systems?

My import saturn was given to me, and it seems to have issues with audio/video. Even brand new games skip and have double-tracks with audio. Is there something I'm missing or does it look like I need to get a replacement system?
EDIT - to make absolutly sure, I opened my sealed JP Saturn Bomberman. I'ts been over a minute and a half after the opening video (which played seamlessly but the Hudson logo audio was garbled before hand) and nothing. Argh, this is starting to worry me, since I still have around 30 JP Saturn games coming my way :(

Have you cleaned the laser eye and the connectors?
Also double-check the connection to your TV/stereo/whatever.

Well, at work we use alcohol on a q-tip. Wipe the lens with the alcohol soaked q-tip and let the lens air dry.
We use this when we clean PS2's and Xbox's and we tend to have good results.
As for what kind of alcohol to use, we use rubbing/cleaning alcohol.....i believe its 70%.

I tried this and while it seemed to work at first, it's now not workign well at all. I have a mint disc in there, and after five resets I have now finally gotten the opening movie to play before it locks up.
:(
I really really like the white saturn... I'm going to have to pay through the nose to replace it, won't I?

Perhaps it is just a bad laser.
If you like the white Saturn so much do a case switch with a US Saturn and find a 4 in 1 cart.
The 4 in 1 will be a whole lot cheaper than a new white Saturn.

I do believe the Saturn was one of the most best built systems out there in all my years of dealing with the saturn Us And japanese models I have never expirienced the problem you are talking about. Dont Fret in all else fails just get yourself another system they are not 2 expensive these days.
Thanks

I had a saturn die on me after years of use, and it experienced the same problems you describe. I just gave up on it and switched to another saturn. No problems since, but I suppose that wasn't particularly helpful.

yeah, I got a quick fix so I can still play most the games but it's still showing signs of dying out on me. I have a US saturn with the same button style coming to me, I'm thinking of switching the laser assemblies between the two. Call me crazy, but I really prefer the japanese Saturn logo over the US one too.

It really depends every type 2 system I've had has had an odd audio cd issue where it starts skipping for the last 5 seconds of every minute
the tvpe 1 systems I've had have slow boot times
Don't know about the japanese only type units
