I'm collecting DC games and I'm going for the 2D fighters right now. Anyone know why the demand is so high for 3rd Strike right now? Should I buy now while I can find it or do you think the price will drop after awhile? I'd like to get it sometime but I don't want to try and get it a year later and find out it becomes a rare gem for the Dreamcast and have to shell out $100.

I venture to guess because it's considered the best street fighter on the DC and that the DC itself is probably the best 2D fighting machine since the neo geo...a lot of hardcore fighter fans love the system.

I should post that I really want to collect it more then I want to play it. I can definetly wait if the price would drop. Who knows maybe it will show up at the pawn shop sometime.

I'm kicking myself for not buying it earlier. When I first bought my Dreamcast, Capcom had just dropped most of their games to $20 (CDN) each... I picked up SFA3 (still my favorite Street Fighter game) and Capcom vs. SNK right away, and Soul Calibur shortly afterwards (also for $20). I had many chances to get SF3:3, but kept putting it off, since I didn't want to overload on fighters, and there were plenty of other cheap games in other genres.

A while back, I managed to find SF3:2 for a good price ($5 I think?), but I haven't seen SF3:3 in ages. Oh well, I never really liked the SF3 games much anyways.

Got mine in mint condition for £5. The PAL version isn't nearly as spendy though.

I bought SFIII new for $20 shortly after I got my Dreamcast in the summer of 2001... along with EVERY other fighter on the system. Definitely a hardcore fighter's dream console. That was a fun summer tho. Dreamcast games were super cheap usually going for $5, $10, $15, and $20 a pop. I finished out that summer with 45 new DC titles. Best summer ever!

Getting back on topic...
I doubt that the price of SFIII will go down anytime soon. In fact, I think it'll go nowhere but up. Best to get it now while the gettin's good. By the way, how expensive is it exactly? I haven't paid much attention to the prices of Dreamcast software lately.

Street fighter 3rd strike is going for $55 on ebay. You know what the crappy thing is? Two weeks ago I went into a pawn shop looking for DC games. I saw the Street Fighter game but the prices was $42 but the guy at the counter told me all the games were 50% off. The rarirty guide listed the game around $15-$20 so I figured I'd get a better deal on it on ebay so I passed. I came home and looked on Ebay and they were going for $50+. I drove back the next day and the game was gone. :(

Well, whats happened is that last year, 3rd Strike's fans organized a competitive scene for the game. It really caught on, and as such, it's one of the most popular fighting games in the US now. Since there's only one home port of the game, on the dreamcast, it's in high demand.

I'm amazed too. I remember a time when everyone considered 3rd strike to be a joke. A game that was good, but no one wanted to play. But then, after Evolution 2002, the big nationals tourney in california, the players that DID play the game said "that's it, we want to see 3s in 2k3, and we're gonna make it happen". So they started havin tourneys, first on the dreamcast, and when they had enough people, they bugged their arcades to get the cabinet. And in the course of a few months, they completely revitalized 3rd Strike, which was essentially dead on arrival in the first place.

So there you go. People are willing to pay 50 bucks because they know they can't find it anywhere else.

I think I paid $30 for my 99.3% mint copy of the game, but considering the fact that it's been the only thing in my Dreamcast for the past three months or so, I'd say it was worth every cent. DUDLEY RULES! :D

Akuma is still god, though. :P

It's probably not going to drop from its $30-$50 or so average, best get it while you can.

I bought it for $4.99 at Blockbuster a couple of years ago. I *guess* it was worth that price... frankly, I never really warmed up to Street Fighter III and I was especially disappointed with the third game.

Collecting goes in phases, and right now, collecting video games is getting VERY POPULAR. In the 80's there was cards and comics, and in the 90's action figures exploded onto the scene. Now, it is video games. I dont expect the price to drop, because finding SF3:3, is going to be a pain even more to find down the road. The dreamcast stuff is going to be like turbo grafx stuff in 10 years....you aren't going to find certain games ANYWHERE. Get it while you can! I started working at a game store on 9-9-99 and was able to get 75 or so of the cream of the crop as it came out. The Dreamcast rocks!

I think it is so expensive because it's such a rare game and there aren't that many out there or something.
Plus, if you have ever played the game it's great! But yeah, anytime I see it it's always liek $30 used at game stores, or like $50 or higher at ebay.

Ubersaurus is correct on his theory. No one really liked 3s until Evo '02. I remember when my friend and I would be the only people playing it at the arcade. Now whenever we go there, there are people lined up putting quarters on the cabinet, sometimes waiting 15 minutes to play.
Since 3s appears no where else, and people want to practice at home, people are willing to spend $50 on it. I think the price will drop in a year or two.

WHere the heck do you guys live? I remember back in the early 90's going to arcades and putting quarters on the screen to save your turn in line. I thought those days were long gone. I'd like to go some place with that kind of atmosphere again. Anyone else remember that craze? I remember waking up at 5:30 am and walking 1 mile with 5 friends with $1 each to play Street Fighter 2. THe crazy thing was when we got to the dohnut shop at 6am there were kids waiting there for the owner to turn the game on. We'd get are asses kicked but we'd come back again the next day to do it again.

BTW what other games do you think will become rares for the DC? I"m thinking Mars Matrix but can't think of to many others. I'm talking about games that are actually fun to play.

California's still got some very active arcades, as does Detroit. Other cities with at least one active arcade include Ann Arbor MI, Toronto, NYC, Omaha, Chicago, Houston (it's all about the Stargate), among others.

I still have my MINT COPY of Streetfighter3:third strike for my beloved Dreamcast and I will never part with it. I bought this gem the same week it was released. Its still in mint condition even though I still play it.
I am one of the few that remember the Streetfighter2 craze back in early '91 and those were the days man!
Also I waited for over 10 years for a TRUE Seqeul to Streetfighter2 and the almighty DC was the only system to recieve that honor.
As for Streetfighter3 bieng dead on arrival; dude I wanna know what universe your living in? becuase the game sold out in my area within a few days and everybody that I know and talk to try to buy my copy from me. On top of all that it is IMOA the most finely tuned beautiful 2-D game ever created, but thats just my humble little opinion.

As far as arcade scene goes, SF3 didn't catch on until last year, and even then it's only 3rd Strike. the previous two editions only saw play for a few months before people declared them crappy. Doesn't matter how nicely it sold...it's competition that keeps fighting games alive, and without it, the game just can't be considered popular.

I completely disagree with you uber most gamers including what is left of the arcade scene agree with the fact that the SF3 series is at the very least a very good addition to the Streetfighter legacy, IMOA SF3:3rd strike is perfection in everyway but that is prob for another thread.

It's popular, but not rare.

It's also much better than the other Street Fighter III game for the DC.

Try to buy it in a lot of games, where the average will bring the price down. Get the game, and then sell off what you don't need.

Good luck!

Down here in California, there are many arcades that have the same atmosphere as the early 90s with SF2. Mainly on Mvc2, CvS2, and 3s. We have tourneys for MvC2, and will be starting CvS2 at my local arcade (Nickel City in Carmel Mountain)

Seattle is also pretty active as many MvC2 experts hang out there, mainly Castro.

Yeah the arcade scene was huge in 92' but I guess that might have been because I lived in San Pedro California. I remember being driven over to Torrance and always getting my ass handed to at the arcade at Del Amo.

Thrid Strike is a terrific fighter. It was one of my favorite Dreamcast games, and I miss it terribly. That's one of the games I would grab a DC just to play again (the others being SF Rush, Chu Chu Rocket, Virtua Tennis, and Soul Calibur).

It was a little unfortunate that Third Strike was overlooked so quickly. I guess there was still so much attention paid to Alpha 3 and MvC2, that nobody had any more time for another fighter. Thank goodness that's changed, and thank goodness for the Dreamcast, the fighting fan's dream.

Wait 2 years you will be able to get it cheap. Its not rare, and its being hyped and is hot right now. Just wait. I remember when Phantom Menace toys were selling for 3x retail on ebay. Now you cant give em away.

*ME* thinks they sold this game a few months ago for roughly $2. Arg.....o well, and the comment about DC--->Turbo grafx? uhhh, I don't think so....but you might be right. I think it could be sought out but not quite like that. There's still tons of it laying around for people to grab up. Surf ebay and you'll find those idiots that want $150 for their system and whatnot. Families are still hoarding this stuff and it will appear at garage sales over the next year because GS had to quit taking this stuff in. Who says YAYAYAY@_*#!@# May even show up at thrift shops, who knows.

Just to clarify, the comment about me thinking the DC won't turn out to be like TG in 10 years is a matter of personal opinion. Let's not start a brawl over it....
