not sure if this is already common knowledge or not but i came across this method of getting the blue disks to work in the ps2 at www.gamewinners.com and beleive it or not it actually friggin worked for me. my ps2 always had trouble playing my risk:global domination to the point it was worthless for me to even play it. but after putting tape on the disk it works just fine for me now. has anyone else been doing this?

Aight, here's another way...... I discovered this LONG ago, but never told anyone, well, at least not on here anyways..... If your PS2 fails to read the blue discs (not the DVD formats), theres a way to fix it w/o ****in around inside your PS2, and besides the ways here. Do you have clear tape (the kind in the little plastic things)???? Great, thats all you need. Now take the tape, and break 4 little pieces, about 1" long each. With these, line the outer edge of the inside of the cd, on the top-side. Put the 4 pieces of tape in a box, lining the edge of the hole (usually where you dock a cd into a player, or for simple minds "where you can stick your finger through). Keep in mind to do this on the UPPER side of the disk, not the read side. You can use more tape, but i dont recommend it. As long as a thin layer is created around the inner hole, it will pick up the disk fine. This has worked on any AND every blue PS2 disk problems that I, and many people i know have had. Good luck. If it doesnt work, ask, and ill tell you why....
