Due to popular demand, issue 2 of the UK Retro Gamer magazine came out today (a month early).

I haven't read through it yet, but it seems to be improving. It features a Commodore history, Top 50 Game characters (bit dodgy, many less important characters included. I mean, they feature Horace, but not Frogger in the Top Ten Animal characters), Dizzy stuff, Retro remakes, Crash magazine history plus more.

For me, still a bit to much UK biased (I wish the Brits would finally forget that horrible Spectrum calculator, I mean, Maggie said it'll be a Japanese technology beater, that says it all), but as soon as more USA stuff gets featured, it hopefully will improve again.

Oh yes, a CD is covermounted again, with lots of PD games of old.

I just found that they carry this magazine in my local Border's Book store. I picked up issue six and I have to say, it's pretty impressive. As an old time computer gamer I'm very happy to see that they offer equal time to classic computer gaming rather then only concentrating on console gaming. My only gripe, )and it's unfair for me to even call it that) is that it's a U.K. magaine. This means that the computer gaming is focused on U.K. computers at the time and my beloved Apple II doesn't seem to be mentioned. Also, all the advertisers are overseas for me.

So how is this magazine faring financially? I feel the need to ask since ManciGames only lasted two issues. I'd love to see a magazine like this released locally.

The Apple II made no roads here, so don't expect an article on it. But you never know, the magazine is going more global and it is quite possible there could be foreign writers in the future. Computers were the thing here in the 80s, consoles didn't take off again really until the Megadrive and SNES era. Even the 2600 wasn't THAT big here in comparison. I mean it was big, but it wasn't Spectrum/C64 big if you get my meaning.

I've flicked through every issue so far, but have yet to see anything that actually compells me to buy it. :o
