I just had to say that I will be representing this forum and hardcore gamers alike because I just got notified that I was one of 5 chosen in a contest that has gamers speak to developers about what they would do if they ruled the gaming world! I am sooooooooooooooooo stoked! I leave Saturday to go down to San Fran to be taped and to comment on my replies. Rest assured I replied with many comments that have been voiced by many hardcore gamers on this site, and I will definately REPRESENT!

Congrats on your interview, just make sure you represent!

It seems that true "hardcore" gamers are in the minority in the sense that publishers are targeting casual gamers to get the most units sold, and our tastes in games are now considered a "niche" market. Make sure you tell those bitches we want quality and innovation, not the latest lame movie port and countless sports games.

Dude, Congratulations!
You are really lucky to be able to do this, and hopefully people will listen and really take note!

Be sure to tell the suits at MS we appreciate getting Metal Slug :D! A few more wonderful LAN games (like Halo) would be swell also!

Oh yes, that goes for me too. Many thanks for picking up the SNK/Playmore games.

And LAN games are too much fun as well.

I have to give props to the box for picking up Metal Slug when PS2 didn't. I actually have a little more respect for my neglected xbox these days.

More 2-D, More 2-D! Just chant that phrase all the way there. :D

Yes, I agree, 2-D fighting, and Metal Slug 3 rock! Now, can we get several other games that use the Steel Batallion controller????

I have been playing the Metal Slug series on my X-Box for quite a while! This isn't really news to me. :)

Congratualtions on this opportunity. Make sure you voice your own opinions as well as some of the important issues that we here at DP have.

Make sure you tell them that popular and mainstream games are fine and fun (I play them a lot) but there's also a good market for more 'hardcore' games if someone would tap it.

Make sure to tell them there aren't enough GTA games out there. Oh and more games on movie and tv licenses. Oh yeah tell them games are to complicated and you would rather them just make 3D games that were more like movies. A 3 D game with one simple push a button can do anything you want it to.

Congrats! Tell em we want lots of 2-D games in all genres! Also, let them know that a game can be mature even if it has a palette of more than brown, light brown, dark brown, and really dark brown.

I think I was chosen because I gave clear, honest answers on what the market ISN'T doing. About the sequels and movie tie-ins, I hear ya man :D
I pretty much voiced concern for the creativity in the gaming field being all but DEAD, and that PART of the problem with games today is that many of them are not original. Many games of today focus on what a pure gamer gives a crap about...how pretty it looks or a clone of this, or a tie in to X movie. Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah. I expressed what I would love to see in the next systems, what I didnt think was important, what game systems I own, how much I play a week, and so on. Don't worry about me not putting my own two cents in because I feel my two cents are what many here at this site PASSIONATELY feel. We are not the mainstream and we live at a time when the unfortunate truth is that games are made for mainstream people. I know personally that I am a harsh critic when it comes to playing a new game, for I have not only done extensive research on video games, but own 40+ systems and 3500+ games to compare a new game to. That sucks for the people that made the game, but I feel that these developers that are making new games need to hear what we passionately feel...not just listen to play testers that are being PAID to critique a game. Dont get me wrong, it is not their fault sometimes when a game is rushed out to meet its doom, money issues etc, but one thing I would like to see is more imput from people that are not connected to the project, have a stake in the outcome of a particular video game, etc. I passionately feel that if the next generation of video game systems want to be as successful, they are going to have to do better then make a machine that can do X amount of things without the focus being on gameplay, originality, and creativity. Sequels and movie tie-ins can make a quick buck, but in the long run, it will kill the industry DEAD.
