View Full Version : Collecting grievances

You know what really ticks me off about collecting video games? It always seems like I pass up all the most valuable games, while purchasing the ones that supposedly have collector's value but nobody actually wants.
Case in point: I'm still stuck with copies of Lunar: The Silver Star and Alundra, two Working Designs RPGs which you'd think would be of some interest to SOMEONE. No dice. I'd have a better chance of selling crotch lice to a prostitute.
With this in mind, I often think twice before buying games with supposed collectors' value. I had the chance to pick up a copy of Dance Dance Revolution Disney Mix yesterday, but decided against it, thinking that I would have as tough a time unloading it as I have Lunar and Alundra. I did some searching on eBay and discovered that the game was being sold for over sixty dollars there. When I went back to pick up DDR Disney, naturally, it was gone.
Some people just can't win, huh?

And that's why we need WiFi laptops when we go hunting. DP Lists + eBay searches on the go.
And I know what you mean. I just loved getting stuck with 2 copies of Gundam on the DC a year or so ago. :(

But how does WiFi help if there is no access point? There needs to be free access points every where. Or do what I do and call someone to look it up for you.

Well, it was a perfect world scenario. And if I had to call my friend up every time I wasn't sure about a resell price, they'd stop picking up the phone on me altogether. :0

Well, it was supposed to be. Glad someone else found the humor in that.

I was thinking of a downloadable rarity guide to hotsync into a pda. That would work. You could check off the games you buy as you go. Joe could offer it to paid subscribers or purchasers of the rarity guide. Or even charge a small fee with free updates. Just a thought.

I second that! I am in the process of converting the PDF lists from Nintendo and adding the values from the DP guide and the Videogame Bible for my pda. I always forget to take my guide along on the weekend hunts! Maybe I should just buy a second one for the car. LOL

How much exactly are you trying to unload Lunar for anyway?
>.>'
And Alundra's a great game but I don't think it's collection value is all that high regardless of what the guide may say. Also it can depend on the disk art, some buyers pay more for one then another. I have a friend who's got all the Lunar disks framed. Sounds like a bit of a waste but I'm sure it looks impressive.

Well the gen and nes lists ar ein excel format so if you have the book you can add the rarity and value (which I have done). I downloaded it to my pda. I knwo most stuff on ebay so thankfully don't need to look it up, but if you got a wireless phone with internet bam you're there. I decided to transcribe the lists to pda after missing out on some r6 and r7 games for the nes cheap last week.

In England we have Internet boxes with Broadband in some larger towns in the town centre...
There is one just down from the Gamestation shop I go to sometimes, and near the flea.... its good, its just 0.50p for 5 minutes, so I save game titles to my phone as an archived text message, and then pop in there and for 50p look the games up
LOL
