View Full Version : The Minor Topic Thread

Ok, here's an idea. I have a question that I don't think deserves a whole thread. So instead of making a separate thread, I'll make this thread. Minor topic, i.e. stupid little questions. Like if you want to know the value on one specific NES game, post here. It'll keep those little questions threads from a. getting lost in the flow and b. slow down the flood of new topics into this forum.
If no one is down with it, I'll just rename my thread to what my question is, move on with our lives.
Ok, the SNES. How do you pronounce it? Sness? S N E S? Super N E S? I've even heard being called Snez or even Sneeze. Is there a generally accepted way? I always just say Super Nintendo. ;)

I usually call it Super Nintendo too, or SuperNes. LOL
But im not sure if there is a correct way of pronouncing it.
By the way i really like the idea of a minor thread, because a lot of my questions dont really need an entire thread. :)

I jsut say snes. No I dont say every letter seperate or say the word super. It looks like snes, so I say snes. So far nobody has questioned what system I was talking about and several other people in my circle of friends picked it up from me to refer to it that way.
As for the football question, I would eat a fudgecicle. That always makes me feel better.

Stupid question from an FPS noob:
Just got Goldeneye for the N64. First level, I shoot some people, then I get to a closed gate with a truck in front. How the heck do I get through it?

You wait until the truck goes through the gate. (Sorry its been a couple of years since I last played that game).

I pronounce each letter singularly, ala S - N - E - S, Senor Portnoyd. Of course it rolls off the tongue rather quickly since I've always said it that way, by extension of always referring to the 8-bitter as the NES.

Cause I just recently borrowed my cousin's N64 :) I tend to stick with 1 system per generation, then fill in the others as I find them cheaply, so I lag behind the times a good deal. I find that happening even when I buy a game right when it comes out...I play it a bit, then think "Oh! I feel like playing Megaman!" and don't finish it for ages.
Hmm, it seemed like I ran around looking for what to do for a long time and the truck wouldn't go through. I'll have to give it another try later.

Ok here is my mini topic (and I had this as a thread a couple weeks ago) HOW DO I GET THE FATALITIES TO WORK IN MORTAL KOMBAT DEADLY ALLIANCE (Xbox)? I beat my opponent, and get in the "fatality" stance after the guy says "finish him!" I enter the codes for the proper fatality, and NOTHING happens!! This is driving me absolutely crazy!! What am I doing wrong? I have tried entering them fast, slow, and everything in between--won't work! Please shed some light on this annoying problem! Thanks!

Hmm...Maybe you're not standing the right distance from your opponent? That used to be a problem in the old MKs.

You know what. Now that I think about it a little more I think not only do you need to be in the stance, but you also have to be standing in the exact right spot, which I believe is about 2 character lenght's away from your opponent. Just try some more or go to http://www.gamefaqs.com/ to get the exact method.
I will say that fatalities in Deadly Alliance were always harder for me than the original games. Like I said it has to do with position I believe. Most of all though, you gotta be quick. :vamp:

Okay, I have a NES label variation minor topic.
I just picked up both label variants of SEI Impossible Mission II (not the AVE version). Now i am wondering since I have these two with very different labels are the boxes and instructions as well very different or was it just a luck of the draw of the cart?
Same deal with color dream carts? Is there anyway to tell which boxes came with which cart color? Hopefully one of you variation lovers can help me out here.

Thanks for the tips-- I went to Gamefaqs and a half dozen other sites, and they all say the same thing and have the same codes. Nothing seems to work, I just think it is something very minor I am not doing or overlooking--it is truly pissing me off though!! They say in Deadly Alliance, you can stand anywhere on the screen to perform the fatalities- I dunno......... x_x

The SEI box and manual will always be the same. It's luck of the draw, as we have no idea, and probably will never have, any idea on how many of each were made.
Color Dreams... the boxes may be different. This I never really thought about. I know you can tell contest label carts apart, as the box as a multipoint star (like a sunish thing) with the contest on the box. I'll see what I can turn up.
And it's alive!!! (Well, maybe a little too alive, hehe)

so are you saying that the carts that came in the multipoint star box are different as well? Damn color dreams, means i have to figure out which ones i need and for what boxes and all that shizzle.

@Marty: I wish I had that atari football game, I remember playing that at the bars with my brother when we were pretty young. (It's the one with the big rolling wheel on each side, right??) If you get that, I will have to rob you of it! LOL
