I just played through ICO and i love every aspect of it. The in-game world is beautiful and every part of part of the environment is beautiful. i love the cinematic camera angles a lot because they really make each area stand out. i really appreciate the simplicity of the gameplay and the lack of stats to pay attention to. all you have to do is figure out how to escape the castle with Yorda. you dont have to worry about life points, you dont have to worry about collecting crap, you just get out the damn castle.

ico is the first puzzle intensive game that i like becuase the solutions aren't farfetched and are based on logic because there transporter puzzles, no moving of the statues in the right place and no finding the correct key to enter corridor 37!

the story is great, its simple yet original. and the ending events are very emotional once you realize whats happening with queen.

theres only a few minor problems with Ico like the user camera becuase its a pain in the ass to control but its. also the game seems short but i quess if it was any longer it would just be an annoying waste of puzzles and if it was any shorter you'd feel slightly cheated.

anyways, i need to get a copy soon since this was a loaner from my friend :o

*damn its a great game*

Ico is a great game. I was in Microplay, checking out their stuff. They had a copy so I asked to check out the disc. I liked the condition and was going say I'll take it when the clerk chimes in with "Ico was a bad game. All you do is beat up black things with a stick".

I thanked the clerk for showing me the game and left. I bought the game at EB a few days later.

Are there puzzles where you push blocks?

Indeed there are...plenty of them in fact.

I found the game enjoyable, but no where close to a great game. I don't mind a good puzzle game, but after a while the game just gets so boring. For me its too slow paced and fighting basically the same creatures over and over and over again gets quite tedious. Also, as stated in the PA comic, leading the girl around can be a chore. (But not as bad as that part in MGS2)

On the flip side, some of the puzzles were cool, the graphics were great, and sometimes the fighting was fun. The story was also pretty neat. I usually hate it when games are 5- hours, but if this game lasted any longer I would have died from repetitive boredom.

Overall, I think its definitely a PS2 game everyone should own (and its cheap enough now too), but I don't think it deserves all the accolades everyone gives it.

If you thought ICO wasn't exciting enough, get Prince of Persia: Sands of time. It's a lot like Ico, only more fast paced, with an arabian theme, lots more action, and a is quite a bit longer, and frankly the ability to reverse time if you screw up is the single coolest idea ever seen for games of this type. They should work that ability in to all future ico/pop style games from now on.

ICO is purely linear. I didn't even get out of that first tower before I was bored to tears. I hate train-track games. In fact, horribly linear games are about as fun as those dumb train simulator games where you can adjust the speed of the train and maybe how the train looks but not where it goes or anything like that. You just watch it go on the tracks. Usually you can't even make them crash.

Are we talkin' about the same ICO here? Lemme guess. Solely an Everquest fanboy*, right? I thought so.

* We sincerely apologize to all Everquest enthusiasts out there who are offended by that thoughtless comment about Everquest Fanboys. We at AtomicThumbs respect the noble Everquest fanboy, and it is not our intention to slight these stupid creatures in any way**.

** Just screwin' with ya.

EverQuest is a mind-numbing array of tedium, a pointless exercise in monotony, and IMO an ill-designed game. It has the potential to be somewhat fun when you're able to find a group of people to play with, but the fact that it is virtually unplayable without joining some uber-guild makes it dumb, IMO.

That, and the fact that killing the same monster for 40 hours to gain one "bubble" of experience or something like that strikes me as being completely lame. I could finish an entire RPG in that time.

Super Mario Bros is also linear but I still love it! With Ico the journey through the castle was interesting enough (and puzzles fun to solve) that it didnt bother me. Like Super Mario I loved Ico for what it was.

Ico and Metroid Prime are the only games my hardcore PC gamer friends have actively stalked me in order to play.

good game. nice looking. innovative. WAY overrated.

Sometimes I'm usually fearful of opening up OPM in case they do another big article on a 'great tresure' for the 56478376th time.
