View Full Version : Should X-Play keep Morgan Webb?

Personally speaking, I don't like her at all... I think she represents everything that's wrong with gaming today. If you saw her review of Blowout on last night's episode of X-Play (where she dragged ALL side-scrolling shooters through the mud for the faults of a single, flawed game), you'd know what I mean. However, I'd like to know if there's anyone out there who thinks she adds more than a pair of breasts to Tech TV's video game review show.

I've said it before-adam sessler can't do the show by himself. He needs a cohost or it gets real boring. I think him and Webb got good chemistry on screen. Sides, the reviews aren't by them personally, the reviews are by the whole techtv reviewing staff (which includes them, to be sure). Sides, they loved r-type final. Who am I to argue with any RTF fans?

Plus she's cute. :embarrassed:

i said it once, i'll say it again: it was alot better before, now it's horrible attempt at humor....and morgans chest does not make up for her lack of everything else.

X-Play is the most horrendous show on TV right now. I would rather watch a teletubbies marathon.

If I'm channel surfing, and come across it, I will ONLY watch it with the mute on for 20-30 seconds to look at morgan, because she used to be on the screensavers.

Querjek: thanks for the link. Interesting responses from the gals, but to be honest I would have hoped Sarah Lane would have won as she has cuteness layered on top of the hotness factor.

Um, what was the topic again? Oh, should X-Play keep Morgan. I'd say nah. I watched a few episodes and she has very little personality. She kinda reminds me of one of a human looking Chuck E Cheese animatron, only with boobs. I understand the need of a female co-host for attraction purposes but they could find someone who has a passion for the games who's a real sparkplug.

i personally think shes hott but the show is just retarded............they said unlimited saga was horrible game while i think it is awesome.........im sure some people hate it but i love the game and cant believe they gave it such a bad score........they never end up talking about the flaws in the "POPULAR" games though.......i think they are paid by advertising the games w/ a high score and stuff.......some of the game show sides and stuff are cool and fun to watch but other from that and morgan's hottness............the show is retarded

and as a side note of that, there are actually 'accidental' nude pics of Cat around.

I still watch X-play since I'm just too whorish for it. I missed Extended tho, just Adam in a gaming room in a oneonone talk with the camera, until xplay came and made itself all 'cool and wacky' and someone slipped a coffee bean into Adam's water.

The only defense I've heard for Morgan Webb is that she's "HOTT". I'm sorry, folks, but I expect a little more substance from my video game reviewers. Sure, she's not hard on the eyes, but listening to her reviews is enough to make me want to gouge my brain out.

But those boobs. They're NICE boobs. Firm. Perky. Everything we could hope for. Could heal the world. I think that's fine for me.

Maybe I'd be more opinionated if I actually WATCHED the show and didn't look at pics of boobs.. err... tits... err..... ass curves- MORGAN. That's it.

I also think she's quite attractive. I was wondering if one of them was going to make it to CGE and it looks like I got my answer. :D I am also very much looking forward at a chance of meeting her. As far as the show goes, I enjoy it. Sure its not the best writing in the world, but I find the reviews helpful and most of the bits funny. Adam can be a little much at times, but Morgan never bothered me.

I think XPlay is a good show...but then again, most consider me to have an odd sense of humor, so I do think it's funny.

Should they keep her? I guess. Doesn't matter to me.

However the shallowness of the replyers (the ones saying that they should keep her because she's hot) is atrocious. Get out, get a girlfriend or something. Or if you really need to wank that bad, go watch a porno.

Hmmmmm. Dunno what to say here. Sometimes X-Play annoys me, sometimes I get a good chuckle out of it. I generally watch it about once a month. I understand the sensation of sticking with a show hoping it gets better (there's gotta be some reason I keep subjecting myself to Enterprise week after week), but really, when it comes right down to it, one can always turn off anything that's causing that much angst. Take it from someone who works in the TV biz...it's not worth all the frustration. :) Really.

Really, all the TV review shows pretty much suck and have lame jokes scattered throughout. But it is a good way to see games in action that you can't get from magazine photo's. So I end up having to put up with the cheap lame 12 year old humor. -_-

Personally I just wanna see that guy on G4's Blister get drop kicked out the door. That guy is the most annoying idiot I have ever watched. I can't even look at the screen cause I know it's going to either turn into an ego trip, or some other kind of emotional wreckage. That guy seriously needs psychiatric help.

As far as Morgan goes, love er!

She's upbeat and spunky. Sure she can be silly, but it's all good cause she does it in good fun. If you rely on Extended Play as your source for good reviews, then maybe you need to re-think your sources. The show is good fun, and you get to see the most up to date games "good enough for me". Reviews are nothing but personal opinion anyway.

Sessler on the other hand walks the border line. He isn't as annoying as that guy on "Blister", and can usually overcome his shortcomings, but when he's serious he's pretty good. I've learned to deal with him, though he's like one of those kids you keep on a leash, a short leash.

Extended Play imo is pretty good, Adam just needs to let Morgan do the corny bits, and he needs to stick to being serious. That formula works best for them, imo.

Um, did you not read my post?

She has her tastes, and she has her opinion. She's also reading off a review that's not, in all likeliehood, 100% hers. You can't hate someone based on that. You can't blame her if she likes 3d games more then 2d ones, or whatever, either. It's a scripted show.

Personally, I like the onscreen antics and chemistry between the two. They play off each other well, something the show lacked when Adam was doing it alone (and to be honest, the original cohost didn't work with Adam that well either). I watch the show, on average, 2, 3 times a week, and I enjoy it. It's funny, it's got cool game clips, and I agree with most of their ratings. If I just wanted to watch hotties, there's like 600 other shows I could check out.

If I go to cge I'm challenging her and Sessler to a contest of games. Over here, we bring the blue sparks, kart style :P

No kidding. Then I'll go on.

Her ass has the quality that just says supple, yet firm. I know if I was to rub it, it'd just be like rubbing my hand over a full, tight, rubber balloon. Squeaking as you go. It's like a bubble, but not so, flat, but not flat enough to call flat ass. Pure gold.

So she reviews games. That's nice.

Perhaps it was an off day.

I think forced dialogue and witty banter between the hosts is what makes the show annoying. I'm sure they're nice folks in person, but onscreen their cue-card chemistry just doesn't cut it. The jokes are poor (and by poor, I mean "I'd sooner laugh at a crippled kid" poor), some of the segments are lame as hell ("oh, socom's out, let's go play paintball!") and they're too goofy. I think if they wrote a little more of their own dialogue and hired someone worth a damn to do the jokes, they'd have a much better show. And remember folks, the announcer is terrible. After every commercial: "Welcome back to X-Play where [insert something as funny as a cougar biting your balls]." Excuse me for expecting something up a couple notches higher on the humor standards. This is 2 lame-ass rappers away from something along the lines of the Spike TV awards.

P.S. Adam: we know your hair is slowly going the way of the buffalo...go Stipe.

No offense or anything, but you asked and I'm not trying to complain or anything (being new and all). BUT... that could have been Adam who "reviewed" it on the air had the drop of a coin not landed heads over tails. Morgan does not write the show reviews. In fact, I think she's only written TWO total on the website so far. They have a staff that does that, and then everyone on the crew that pitches in their thoughts and the head writer revises it for Television. Then Adam and Morgan go in and do the ADR work for the review and it gets edited together. Simple, no?

And I'll let everyone in on a secret... come a little closer. Just a LITTLE bit closer. Ready? --Yes... Morgan has boobs. And get this... Most women do! I know it's a shocking discovery to many, but perhaps we can learn from this information and become a greater being of mankind.

I'm not actually FROM TechTV. However, I am a regular at the Xplay messageboards and have held quite a few conversations with various staff members and interns that work on the show. --Although I did write the Disembodied Voice intros for 2 episodes, which was nice of them, even though they pretty much sucked.

:P

Unfortunately, they get a lot of questions and complaints about Morgan not being a gamer (which is untrue. You can CONSTANTLY see her playing games on the Spycam for hours on end often when they aren't playing filming or producing an episode). And about Adam and Morgan giving games bad ratings and reviews.

This is a more basic explaination of what goes on. There used to be a LONG thread by one of the interns, Kevin Theobald, explaining what goes on and I can't really find it now (probably too old)... but here's the gist of it...

The reviewers for Xplay are comprised of semi-staff and semi-freelance writers from other videogame related websites and magazines. Someone familiar with the games and the genres gets the game. So when they get a copy of the game, one of those writers is assigned the reviewing duties. Once it's written and handed it, the Xplay staff go over it and add their 2¢. Unlike, say, Judgement Day, EVERYONE gets to add in their thoughts, but no one single person effects the outcome of the rating.

For example, just because Adam Sessler doesn't like the majority of RPGs out there, it won't effect the overall rating and review of the game. Once all the points are factored in, the staff finalizes the review for the website.

Once the text review is done, the staff and head writer begins scripting the on-air reviews based upon key points from the text review and the staff meetings. And on a side note, all of the dialogue in the episode (including Adam and Morgan's chit-chat), except for an occassional ad-lib or two, is scripted as well. All the "rants" they have about something is plotted out in advance, for sort of a dramatic emphasis. Adam and Morgan are much more laid-back in real life.

Meanwhile, yhe Interns and staffers begin filming game footage in the gamelab to show off the points of the review. Depending on how much time they have before the deadline effects how much of the game you will see on TV. Remember, they not only need to play the game, but film it, edit it, and search for footage that will get the point of the review across. And any other footage (live-action or unrelated) has to be filmed around this. Adam and Morgan go into the recording booth, and create the voice-overs for the reivews from the finalized script.

Then (I believe on Mondays and Wednesdays) they begin to film the show in real time. Meaning they filter in the segments as they film each episode live in the studio, instead of just recording the 4 or 5 minutes of non-review footage and then edit it all together, they are in the studio the whole time as the episode is being prepared and they watch the reviews in the studio just as we would at home.

Then, of course, everything is edited together for the episode to air, with the intro and graphics and credits and so forth. Start to finish, it usually takes about 3 weeks before the episode hits the air.

ANYWAY... it's not THAT in depth, but I hope that explaination made sense and gives people a better understanding of what goes on behind the scenes.

@_@

BTW... Even though it's hectic behind the scenes there, Xplay always reads all viewer mail they recieve, and the staff reads the messageboards daily. They may not always POST at the boards, but they do read it and reply to many more than one would think. Sometimes, even Adam will respond and pop up in the tuesday Chatroom sessions. And I'm told that Morgan has been known to pop up in chats a few times too. And it's usually the horny fanboys obsessed with talking about her boobs that ruin it for everyone.

I don't want to answer the poll, because I think they should keep her. I mean, she wouldn't even have to review anything, she could just sit there. I think she's pretty hot, so it would suck to just have that stupid dude on there. And hey, G4 has some reviews that are just as bad.

TechTV needs to dump both Morgan and Adam. Sometimes she comes off as stiff and other times having a glazed over look in her eye like she's being fed lines through an earpiece. Adam needs to go because he's like 40 and tries to look like he's Dennis the Menace, and acts as though he has ADD.

Y'know, after reading the posts and such (and not because Morgan MAY be reading this) I got to thinking back to her Screen Saver days. I liked her on the Screen Savers. Sometimes clueless (as an example she did a pretty robotic and painfully quirky review of Real Genius waaaaay back) but overall did a pretty good job. However she seems to be a different person on X-Play. The quirkiness is still there but, as others have said, her responses and actions seem forced. While I know she plays games (as it probably is her job as well as a recreation) she seems to give me the impression she wants that fact on the "down low" or that "it comes with the job". Hence why I said they need someone more passionate about gaming who can say "I'm a gamer and proud, dammit!" without reading it from a cue card.

I say that any time spent watching X-Play, Gee Fore or whatever the hell is on these days is a waste of time better spent leveling up characters, whittling down one's playthrough time in Super Metroid, looking for new/old games or posting at this forum.

Besides, GameSpot, GameSpy and IGN do it so much better, all of it, and in a much less obtrusive format.

SoulBlazer... G4TV (Which backwards is TV 4 Gamers... get it?) is a videogame-based television network. Has some decent shows and some not-so decent shows on it. It's about 2 years old now. TechTV is tech-based channel that features X-play, a videogame-based TV show. It started about 6 years ago... but back in the old days it was known as ZDTV.

Anyway... back, oh, 6 years ago when ZDTV launched, they planned to introduce a videogame show. Ziff Davis, the owner, also owned Gamespot.com. So he decided to name the TV show Gamespot TV, although is really wasn't related to the website. The forumla was simple... girl host and a guy host have a weekly or so show about videogames. Reviews, previews, interviews, cheats... stuff like that. The guy hosting was Adam Sessler.

Couple years later, Ziff Davis sells the network. New buyers rename and rehaul the network into TechTV. The Gamespot TV is dropped and the show becomes Extended Play. Sometime after, the girl decides to leave the show and move to NY. Adam Sessler does the show solo for a year and a 1/2 or so. Meanwhile, haning around on another TechTV show called "The Screen Savers", where is Morgan Webb.

The creators of Extended Play decide to revamp the show, give them their own set, make the it a little more fun and open, and decided they wanted to move up from the "1 episode a week" format and pump out more (which is now 3 or 4 episodes a week), and went daily. The show became X-play, and Morgan Webb became the new co-host to Adam Sessler.

There are also other shows available on The Game Show Network. One I know is called Game Sauce and I forget what the other one is. I've seen them air on weekend afternoons back to back and they seem to be of British creation. These shows are pretty decent as they seem more professional in their approach to gaming journalism. They do have a hostess of sorts but all she does (in the shows I've seen) is speak about what's coming next after the commercial break or expand on the topic that was just discussed. Other than that it's all narrative with game footage.

The GSN shows were on Thursdays from 4-6pm CST, a 2-hr "block" in 3 roughly 40-minute shows, & repeated again that weekend. It went "Game Sauce", "GamerTV", & "Game Sauce" again. The hot hostess, Carmen Nicole, did indeed only talk about what was coming up & gave sales stats/charts every so often, though once she interviewed a game-mag editor.

Unfortunately, it's not on here (Twin Cities) anymore, but I havent really searched. I imagined a bunch of senior citizens complaining their favorite 25+ year old game show reruns were missing!

I'll have to remind everyone next time the Retro episode airs.

I heard the GSN shows got canned. Supposedly, they wanted to get on TechTV a few years ago, but Xplay said NO! so they went away. They were actually on G4TV for a year or so, before moving over to the Game Show Network. Though, I hear it's being cancelled or is already cancelled.

Yep.

Every once in a while they'll do something really funny, but most of the time they're just trying too hard.

Then there's the usual complaints... they waste too much time on games that don't deserve it, and don't really give you any content that can't be found elsewhere (how about meaningful interviews with people in the industry?)...

Both hosts are fine, they're just not getting much to work with.
