I recently just got a Sega 32X, but it's missing the connetor cable that goes from the Mega Drive to the 32X.

As such - when I play games, there are no 3D graphics displayed.

My question is - where can I get one of these cables from OR is there any way of creating one?

Unfortunately, your best chance at getting one of these cables is just to buy another 32X (making sure that the cable is included).

As for making one... if you're handy with a soldering iron, you can certainly do it. The connector is a standard 9-pin mini-DIN connector. You should have a electronics hobbyist store somewhere in your city, and they'll probably have them (or if not, they should be able to order some for you). Buy a couple of the connectors (maybe 3 or 4 just in case), and a short length of bundled cable (9 conductors with a metal shield), and just connect the pins to each other with a soldering iron.

I figured I'd have to do this.

Unfortunately, that's easier said than done.

Just as an example - I looked on US eBay, and there are about 10 or so 32x's up for auction. By comparison - there is 1 on eBay Australia, and chances are some bastard will snipe it.

Is this what you're looking for?

You still need the other cable (as said in the auction), so beware. This is only the cable to make it work on a Genesis 1 with the genny 2 cable.

This is the cable I'm looking for. I've got a Mega Drive II (3 now in fact :o )so I don't need the adapter.

Hi guys! been reading the forum for some time now, but finally registered and made my first post! :P

Just found an awesome deal. 15€ for a 32x (without cables).
So... I have a model 1 mega drive, I could make a that link cable like you said, but on model 1 it's not a mini-din 9 pin connector, but instead a 8 pin DIN connector. How supposedly were the solderings made then?

Besides this cable and the power source to the 32x, is there anything more I should look out for?

thanks in advance

The 32X came with a Model 2-to-model 1 adapter to attach to the cable if you had a model 1. You can buy them, if you look hard enough online, though I doubt for cheap. How to do one yourself I'm not sure, though I imagine it's possible...

The power cables are much easier to find, you just need any Genesis 2/Game Gear/32X power supply. Those linkup cables are harder to find and more expensive, particularly if you also need the model 1 adapter...

The Model 1 cables can get a little pricey, like $15-20 at times, and it can be tough to find alone.

I have a deal around that price, right now. That's why I wanted to make one myself, if i could find out how to do it.

EDIT:
one question. Since this cable that makes the connections between the two consoles, is done by the video outputs, does the 32x have another one, so we can connect it to the TV, or this connection is possible only through the mega drive RF adapter? Can we connect the 32x directly to the TV through the 9minidin connector, so we have all 3d graphics and everything, without the need of that special cable that links the MD and 32x?

32x uses the same A/V cables that the Model II Genesis does to display the picture.

You can't do that, you need to have the special 32x cables in order for it to work.

Do you mean the model 2 to model 1 adapter? If so I have one laying around somewhere. The 32x I bought came with it, but I use a model 2 Genesis.

Yeah, that adapter! But I live in Portugal, europe :\

anyway, i found someone's answer to a question like the topic's one:

you can build one using some wire, a 9 pin din plug, but the third plug (a 10 pin custom mini din) for into the 32x is hard to locate... so all I did was take a bit of the metal ring from a broken genny 2 A/V plug and wired it up with sewing needles as pins.

It worked like a charm
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/lordofduct/32xconnector.jpg

but what he says it's not actually correct, i think, because the 32x is a 9-pin mini din connector, and the mega drive model 1 is a 8-pin connector. But you can see the picture, and he says it works. Do you have any idea how I can solder these things?

One more thing. I have an import adapter for mega drive games. It came with my dragon ball z jap. Can I use it on my 32x to play 32x ntsc games on my pal 32x (and mega drive)?

found this:

http://www.gamesx.com/avpinouts/genesisav.htm

so... can you think of something with this?
how about the audio part? is it transmited by this cable between mega drive and 32x too? If so, is it possible to get stereo sound from 32x? Because the output from mega drive 1 is mono, as in the picture. Or are the 32x games sound generated by the 32x itself? How about playing md games with the 32x attached?

I have manufactured 32X cables for both hook-ups. Check out

I remember getting my 32x for Christmas when it came out, and my parents didn't get the other cable that was needed..I was so pissed and had to wait two more days before I could get one and play..good luck with your search

You mean the Genesis 2 RF box?
I was lucky, and so was my best friend. By the time the 32X came out I had ditched RF for good, so I gave him the RF cable he needed.
