you know what is sad is I had one of those....My mom used to buy toys back in the 80's when they were on sale and such....she'd save them for when my friends had birthday parties and such, about hmm... say 1994 or so she let me have every thing that was left over in her stash, and I sold them off probably really cheap(I don't know, I don't collect figures)...besides just GI Joes, I know I probably lost a ton of cash because she had star wars and return of the jedi figures too....

What makes these figures so rare?

I know very little about GI Joe but I believe Cobra Commander was first available only as a mail-away figure in 1982, and finding that figure in a 1983 card is impossible as hell.

I remember that, it was sickening to see grown men go to the star wars aisle and leave with 2 carts full of action figures to sell at the flea markets.

I know for a fact that I had one of those... (I remember my brother showing me his "GI Joe" that my parenst mailed away for for his birthday... then he got sick of it, and gave it to me..... adn then I had it sotred in my garage (along with all my other GI Joes, Star Wars figures, and LJN wrestling figures....) and then my parents Ford Aerostar blew up in teh garage and there went all my figurines...... that was such a fun day.. adn seeing this auction just makes me even mroe happy about it

Is there a difference between the carded and the mail order one? I have over 100 GI JOe figures but mine are all lose. Plus I also have a ton of the vehicles and bases.

Thank God, maybe they'll forget about Star Wars crap now and the prices will go back down.

Cobra Commander is not that hard of a fig to find. I think it has to do with the grading (95) that this carded figure has. Still, it's a silly price.
