Now, I had heard this Genesis game had some sort of cult following back when I was a regular posting on the Gamefaqs.com GEN forum. People who really, really, really, really loved it... and hoped a sequel would come out and it would be ported to GBA and whatnot. All telling me of the marvels of this game and that I need to get it and this and that.

Now, last year I won't the game in an auction and have played a good amount of time on it. But I still cannot find the fascination with the game. Apparently you can rip arms and legs off of robots and bash them with it, or add it to your own body to replace severed limbs... or so I'm told. I'll never know if I can do that or not, because I can't figure out what I'm supposed to do TO do that. --Instead, I find myself playing through a bunch of stages, in pairs of 3, all of which are the samn damned stage, only in different colors, fighting 5, maybe even 6 evil robots THE ENTIRE STAGE, walking around doing nothing 1/2 the time while missiles ride up my robotic tailpipe from offscreen, and the usual "make sure not to stand on the spikes, or the "strange magnetic field" ploy we've all seen before. All the while punching and jumping and dashing my way through with ultra sluggish controls and losing an arm, never to get it back for the rest of the game, and waiting around 15 seconds after I destroy one of the enemy robots until they volunteerily explode and I can progress.

Apparently, I'm just not "getting" it. So does anyone know what's supposedly so great about this game, or what I fail to see when I play it?

i love this game :D

if i remember correctly, you should press "back+c" to pull an arm off the robot when standing right next to it. then one of the buttons drops the arm, another puts it on you, and one throws it. if you pull an arm off a robot and then do the back+c again, you rip off its torso and that kills it. you can press the "use on me" button to take enegry from it too.

of course i cant remember 100% what the button combo is for ripping, but i do think its back+c.

i like the game :P

Do you know what the "use on me" button is? I got it used without the instructions.

CONTROLS! (taken from da book)

A- short forward hop. press twice quickly to use the special hand.

B - jab with special hand

C - Blocks when standing still, jumps when moving forward.

i was wrong, here are controlls for rippin n stuff

RIP OFF ARM - Back+A
replace your arm with it -A
throw - B
drop - C

to ripoff a torso, do the same as arm. then press a to use it.

to pick stuff up off the ground (good for getting legs), stand near part and press down+c, then forward. its kinda hard to do.

I love the game too.

There's something very satisfying about sawing off your opponent's limbs and then stealing them and throwing them back as weapons. Also there are lots of places in the game where the backgrounds are interactive and cause damage - pinning an enemy in one of these areas as you tug on their arms... ah...

While the game itself is lacking any real depth, its innovations are often lost on action fans and too subtle for others. Very few games allow you to customize your fighter in mid-battle or allow you to so cruelly dismantle an opponent. We need more cruelty in our video games, dammit.

I agree! And cruelty of the right kind! LOL

We need a sequel called "Zombie Justice". I think you know where I'm going with this. ;-)

Frankenstein-like scientist assembles a killer from parts of choice, and you go to work beating the crap out of other zombies for no apparent reason. I'd buy it.

What made this game so fun was having another person to play with. With either the arcade mode or fighting one on one it was great. I remember if your buddy was knocked out you could repair him back to life if you were quick enough, that or steal his precious laser gun.

If you look at just about any beat-em-up at the time they were all mindless, at least Cyborg Justice let you custom make your character. It was even possible to steal the secondary arm of another robot with the buzz-saw, and those didn't even have a purpose.

Could anyone please explain what the hell was the deal with the game's boss? Or the weird energy system, which would actually give you another life if your energy extended past 100%? Unfortunately, your new life would only have 5% energy and would be almost instantly destroyed...

The boss at the end (were there ever bosses for other stages? I can't remember) was the computer that put your brain into a robot body and tried to make you it's SLAAAAAAVE.

It was certainly a very different fight compared to all the humanoid opponents from earlier.

Just put this game on top of the pile
Next time I hook up my MD I'll give this another chance.
I was one of the ones that didn't "get" it.
