I just wonder that perhaps even at $3 each half off, that they probably have half-dead batteries or dead batteries anyways, and might as well pick them up new off eBay, because batteries will cost more than the memory device itself. Bad thinking or not?

TRU sells new 1st party VMUs for $2.50 (if they have any left).

If you go to Walmart, you can get a 2pk of the correct batteries, Eveready I think, for $2 and change. If the mem cards you are buying are in decent shape, you will be further ahead because you won't have to pay shipping charges. Just make sure the mem cards are the official SEGA DC variety.

If you're only using the VMU's (at least I assume you're talking about VMU's) as memory cards then it's a non-issue because VMU's don't require the batteries to save files. If, however, you're looking to use your VMU for mini-games and the like, then battery consumption does become an issue and VMU's tend to eat them up somewhat quickly. I've been raising a Chao (Sonic Adventure) for the last few weeks, for example, and my batteries went out after two weeks of moderate to heavy use.

Still, since DC hardware is going to get a little scarcer in the next couple of months, I would get what I can now. Here's a tip: Never mind getting your frikkin` batteries at Walgreens. You can get Duracell brand CR2032 batteries (VMU uses two of these) at Home Depot for $1.10 apiece, assuming you have a Home Depot nearby. At that price your VMU's can function into perpetuity.

Forget retail stores for your batteries. If your willing to buy at least 10 or more you can get them on ebay for $ .25 or even less. The more you buy the cheaper they are usually.

I have no comment on the VMUs........

But I must say to The Manimal: Savatage kicks ass. One of the best bands of all time IMO.

Personally, I think that the price for the VMU's is extremely good. They all eat batteries like it is no one's business, but they still work without. If you don't plan on using your VMU without being plugged into a system, you really don't need batteries.

Depending on where you look, you can find them really cheap. The online store I run has them for $0.75 for two, but it wouldn't make any sense to get two and have them shipped to you... Just look at other places you are doing transactions and you should be able to find some cheap!

Thanks. I thought the batteries were being used up as part of saving it. I'll probably see if they have any left tomorrow.

The local TRU's are all out of Dreamcast stuff, other than third party controller cord extension cables LOL

if your buying used DC vmus make sure that they have the top cover on them. this keeps the dust out of the connections and makes them look nicer when then are not in use.

I wish I had the TRU like that around here. After reading some other Dreamcast stories, I went in to check for myself and found...

DC games $9.99-$29.99 (and not titles worth that amount... stuff like Chu Chu Rocket and so on)
VMUs $9.99

Gamestop's been my only place. I just bought a couple more yesterday...

You know, the batteries aren't even needed. I wouldn't buy batteries just for a VMU so it can be used up in a week. I took mine out and use them in other systems.

You may want to grab a few of these. They are getting tougher to find, and at $.98 each, you won't find a better price.
