Just so people know, Gamestop is penny-ing out lost of used accessories the company deems 'unprofitable'. This goes along with the recent 50% off announcement they've made. Now is the time to dumpster dive! :)

knowing that people actually throw those kinds of things away pisses me off.

i mean like... if u worked in the store, how could u possibly just THROW IT AWAY!?... alot of that stuff i would actually be willing to pay for... seems like such a waste, and knowing that tons and tons of things like this DONT get saved from the trash pisses me off too.. its like alot of these items arent made anymore, and alot of the ones that are circulating get thrown away... which is a shame.

Did the jewel cases also have the games with them?
Yes..
The Dreamcast games that are near the cases are from the jewel cases..

I just took them out since that's the only cases that had games in them..to show.

Makes you realize how many golden treasures are just tossed. Why not put it on ebay as one giant lot for a penny?

Store policy probably forbids them from taking it home.

After seeing all this, I draw one conclusion: the people who make the big decisions at Gamestop are idiots.

You'd think those people would at least box up the stuff and put it in storage, sell it on ebay or something...

Oh well, at least their cloud of idiocy has a silver lining for us collectors. LOL

I hear you man..

I see,get and hear about a lot of good stuff destroyed so no one can use it if they Dumpster dive..
Now that pissed me off..

This is not the only stuff that's been picked up lately ..

I just so happened to be with my uncle today when it was found..
I was picking up some Arcade machine PCBs and we stopped at one of his Dumpsters diving spots..(I never even got to see the front of the store)

He's got piles of stuff he's picked up..he checks every other day after work and after work is early in the morning for him..
He travels to several stores like a route..
He's really racked some stuff up this month..

He does it for the finds.,.but gives all of it to me..He knows I'll give it a good home..He may keep a few magazines to read..

He likes the finds but doesn't like the way this is all thrown away..
Think about all that we are not seeing..all the other stores.

I took all this home, threw away some really messed up stuff and let him put the big stuff in our shared storage, though I hardly go there.

I wish they would give the playable stuff or even sellable stuff the poor or something..
Though many other things are tossed away in this world when you have a love for gaming items finding all this stuff thrown away kind of hurts..

I did leave a few cases of empty PS2 games in the van...
I remember one was Tekken 4....

I agree. It hurts a little to see good things just thrown away. If I was the head at one of these stores and in complete control throwing something out would be my last resort. After all, "one man's trash is another man's treasure."

Check your local laws.
Some places consider it fair game if it's on public land.

Of course around here it's a good idea to wear your running shoes ;)
I haven't found any game store dumpsters yet but I'v been diving for telco
documents and equipment for a long time and it's amazing what some people throw out.

From what I understand it is legal. I believe there were some lawsuits back in the 80s where one company raided another's dumpster to get info on the competitor. Well, they got caught and were sued. They were found not guilty because once you throw something away (it was determined), you are not claiming ownership of it anymore.

However, I think there may be restrictions on this... a bit of grey area depending on how far the trash is from the curb, who owns the dumpster or trash can, whether there's no trespassing signs, who's property (who owns the actual lot) the dumpster or trash is on....blah blah blah.

Mostly, it's just humiliating to get caught. I mean, wtf are they gonna do, and why would they care (ok, you could get hurt in there and sue...but then you're fucking dumb any way).

Dumpter diving is legal in most areas. There are lots of forums dedicated to dumpter diving on the web that go over the how-to and what to avoid.
Dont be suprised if something you buy off Ebay is from a dumpter, there are quite a few people that do it for a living.[/quote]

After the dumpster that stuff still has another chance of ending up in someone elses hands. I have a friend who works for a waste management company and he and the employees that sort trash keep interesting items they find in the sorting process that takes place after the waste disposal company drops off the trash.

I don't want to sound like a fuddy duddy, but taking things from a dumpster is illegal and you could be heavily fined.

I was in charge of a Polaroid Scavenger Hunt a few months ago and one of the pictures they had to get was the whole group in a dumpster. Just as they were climbing out, a police officer drove by and gave us an earful. He knew what we were doing so he let us off...but if out arms had been full of stuff like this guy took, we very easily could've been fined or worse.

It clearly states on most retail store's dumpsters that taking things from them is illegal. So this guy basically stole all of that gaming merchandise. Yes, it was in the dumpster, but technically it still belonged to the store until the point of removal.

This saying, if you choose to go dumpster diving, do so at your own risk.

The problem I have with dumpster diving is that all the game stores around me share the dumpster with a restaurant. And restaurant can make some nasty trash.

Hello flywheels, I see you are in Charlotte as well. There is truth in what you say, the legality of dumpster diving can become a gray area if the store wishes to make it an issue of trespassing. If the dumpster is butted up against the store or within a fenced in area those are indications it's not a good idea to do it when somebody can see you. :D

Shared dumpsters or those in a relatively open area quickly become 'public domain' although authorities seem to be more concerned if you are putting things in them than taking out.
