Replacing sega nomad LCD

The only place to get another screen from would be another Nomad, as far as I know.

I know this is a very old topic, but I rather ressurect this and create a duplicate.

I need to know where I can find a replacement LCD screen, not plastic protector. As all electronic products have, there should be a particular part number or equivalent that can help.

Why I want to replace? Cracked screen due to temperature change. There has to be one that will work, even if different from the original one.

If I need to get another Nomad, how much is it worth for a non-functional Nomad unit? I feel it is better finding a replacement somewhere, or doing a mod project and installing a brand new, different, LCD.

I don't know of any dirrect crosses for the part but since the Nomad has composite out (and I believe RGB internally), then it should theoretically be possible to connect any screen with these inputs to it as long as it fits and the voltage is right. If you used one with an LED backlight you'd probally get better battery life as well.

Do you know the voltage requirements for the screen? I can double check Forest Hills to see if they have a equivalent in stock.

I'm pretty sure it's 5V. Any higher voltages such as the back light have a converter built in.

But just so you know...a new lcd module probally isn't going to be too cheap. Your still probally better off finding a busted Nomad. Or maybe look into places that sell parts for car video stuff. www.partsexpress.com used to have smaller lcd modules. Not it looks like they only have a 6" one. It's $99

I used one of these for my senior project (http://www.geocities.com/jeremy_burk/projects/electronics.htm)in college and it worked pretty good but I'm sure it's way too big for what you'd want. And a working Nomad would still probally be cheaper.

I too would like to replace the LCD in my Nomad. The screen on my Nomad is pretty blurry and also has a blob of stuck pixels that seems to grow every so often. I'm sure I could find another Nomad, but the chances are the screen will also be slightly blurry on that one as well.

I would really like to install a new LCD screen, but have absolutely no idea how to go about doing it. Heck, I haven't even taken the Nomad apart yet because of the security screw. How difficult would it be to install a modern-day LCD screen into the Nomad? Obviously I don't want to go too overboard and install at $150 screen, but I really would like a quality display.

Any help would be appreciated. And please, try to spoon-feed.

i have 4 sega nomads all they need is the brightness button and 7508
