It's all coming together next Sunday, March 7th at
Christian's place (19 anson street, jamaica plain MA 02130) We'll be starting at 2PM; however, you
can show up anytime after that and we won't make fun of you for being
"late." Please do *not* arrive early though, as Christian's family
needs appropriate time to prepare for us. The festivities will be
running at least until 7ish (hey, it's a Sunday night), but they may go
as late as 9 depending on lots of variables. If you still need
directions or other logistics info, please contact Christian for
directions, parking instructions, or what kind of beer to bring (
rcs7127@netscape.net ).
Now then, we have a few things to get through here, so please read
everything. First is the New England Classic Gamers Video Game Olympics
FAQ, as written by Christian. This should give everyone some insight
into the competition going down next weekend:

New England Classic Gamers Video Game Olympics FAQ
************************************************** **
Q- what do you mean video game olympics
A- a multi console contest to determine who is the greatest gamer in New
England
Q- how do i get in on this?
A- first you need to attend the trademeet, then sign up for it on site.
the
catch is you're bringing part of the grand prize, bring any game or
gaming item worth $8-$12 to go into the prize pile.
Q- be more exact about the game i need to bring for the prize pile
A- dont even think of bringing 8 combats or a bare genesis, bring
something fun like a boxed atari game or a cool joystick or even a cheap
PS2 game...if you're really boring you could just throw down ten bucks.
Q- so the grand prize is all the games people bring, what about 2nd and
3rd place winners?
A- second place gets you copy of atari 2600 ewok adventure, NECG's self
produced super rare proto game, third place gets you a custom built
atari 5200 paddle controller, perfect for kabooming super system style.
Q- how many people can play?
A- as many as want to, we need at least 8 players to make it happen so
dont wimp out!
Q- what if i suck at the games listed?
A- you'll be in good company, as far as i know nobody owns all of these
games but everyone will have a chance to practice first.
Q- will this take all afternoon?
A- no, you only have to be there for your matches, just sign up and our
designated yeller will summon you.
Q- can i use a genesis power supply on my NES toploader?
A- sure, as long as its not the yellow tipped one
Q- is this gonna be a rigged contest where chris wins like the joust
pong battle?
A- chris will have the homefield advantage, on the other hand he tends
to drink a lot during the trademeets.
Q- can i bring my own controllers?
A- you can and you should, no whining, heck bring a big bad arcade stick
and clean up on mortal kombat.
Q- how does the game work?
A- we start off with high score games, they're multiplayer but the goal
is to get a lot of points, the second heat involves actively defeating
the other player, things get heated and then we end up at the final
mystery game where its one on one for the big prize.
Q- who picked the games?
A- we asked our most hardcore members, those who have attended at least
4 trademeets and made an emotional bond with cootie. of course those
people will have an edge on the game they picked but with so many games
thats not really a big factor, a player who is decent across the board
could easily beat a one trick pony.
Q- how does the elimination work?
A- everybody plays thru the high score round but only the topscoring
players move onto the elimination round, how that round works out
depends on how many people sign up to play
Q- uhh... what are the games?
A- glad you asked, check em out, practice, scheme and good luck!
HEAT 1 line-up- the high score challenge
Super Monkey Ball (GC)- Monkey Target: with four different monkeys to
choose from its key to learn which one works for you, and yes it will be
available for pre-meet practice. choosen by our resident party game
expert kirk israel, good luck beating this guy!
Quick Step!(2600)- keir brings this quirky imagic title to the table,
play as a kangaroo or as a squirrel, out-bounce and out-wit! this game
has as many ways to frusterate the other player as it does to score
points, do yourself a favor and read the manual!
Darius Gaiden (Saturn)- scott dares you to out silver hawk him in
this side scrolling shoot em up, steal his power ups and ride in his
wake, he hates that!
Joust (7800)- my personal pick for the challenge offers you the chance
to even the score, play nice and reach the egg wave together or get mean
and knock out the guy who took the lead in the previous rounds!
HEAT 2- Head to Head Elimination for the high scoring
Hat Trick (7800)- the pro system stays plugged in for this hockey face
off, what else could we expect from our bruins loving 7800 completist
Mark?
Pac Man Vs.(GC)- a last minute addition thats sure to entertain,
challenge and lead to some serious groaning, all part of the fun!
Mortal Kombat II (SNES)- remember we said you could bring your own
controllers, this is the game you'll want to do that for. normally joe
seems like a nice fellow but lurking underneath that mask is a burning
desire to rip out your spine and hand it to you!
and then there were two...
...and only one will win the battle in our final mystery game!
Q- can i have some hints on the final mystery game?
A- ok i guess so, its a true classic created just across the river by a
bunch of guys who played with trains...cryptic isnt it? dont worry,
there'll be practice time for the two finalists and the game is more
primative than pong. even if you think you know what it is i wont tell
you and i doubt you can practice it at home anyways...heh heh.
