View Full Version : What's wrong with my options?

I opened my mailbox to see this today:

"I would love to buy this because of the unique features of that particular camera. However, your payment terms are harsh & rather demanding. My bank, because of the balances I keep, does not charge me for cashiers checks. However, you want me to go to a local post office and wait in the long line ?

Also, how does one know that your really do own the camera and/or that you will not ship a hollow carton ?

Trust should be mutual."

Ok--if you don't get charged fees by the bank, what's wrong with a cashiers check? Sorry if this is a big bit of money for me to deal with, but I don't want to get burned. I think a cashiers check, M.O. or W.U. money wire is suitable, but maybe not for everyone. I've read about other people getting fake M.O.'s (even on this board I think?), so a week waiting period isn't too long...Registered mail is an option, but I think he missed that point. When I purchased a $1000 piece of equipment, I want to make sure my payment gets there. When I sent a Cashier's check before, it got lost for 2 weeks so I put a stop payment on it and then went to W.U. and had to pay the fees!

Was this a suitable response, or too harsh?:

"I'm a student and don't want to get burned. I have to buy supplies and such with this money. Compaired to other sellers on ebay, payments terms & agreements aren't too strict. My feedback rating should speak for itself, but I'm not forcing you to bid, so if you don't like the terms, then please don't"

BTW: the guy who sent this, his feedback is 37 and he has to question my trustworthiness at 400+ positives? ARGH! Who let these kind of people out this morning?

That mail is really harsh, pretty arrogant on his part. He's just trying to sway you into letting him use a cashier's check. Tell him no MO, no camera. If he wants the camera, he has to agree to your terms, not his. And what's the big deal about getting an MO? Whatever.

Cashier's check is totally fine, but he has to realize that it's going to sit in the back for a week or so. No Ifs, Ands, or B-b-buts!

In both the cities that I reside in time to time, there is more than one post office within a 10 mile radius--long lines my ass!

Sounds like this guy isn't going to be happy anyway. I mean, to imply that you don't have what you say you do (when you have pictures and 400+ positive feedback) is just absurd! Personally, I wouldn't sell to this schmo because I think you're going to be in for more headaches down the road if you do.

For an expensive item like this, I don't think your terms are unreasonable at all. Basically I think you hit it just right, "if you don't like it, don't bid." Just because someone wants something expensive and desirable doesn't mean the seller has to bend over backwards to accomodate the buyer. Either accept the terms or move along.

Shit like this pisses me off.

You are the seller, you make the rules. They are pretty clear, if the person didn't like them they should not bid. PERIOD. You don't deserve to be questioned with your EXCELLENT feedback record!

Just wondering, why do you not accept other types of MO's (non USPS)? As a seller myself, is there a reason I should not accept them too?

Thanks

well Mr. Retrogamer, for my other auctions I do (so you should keep doing what you're doing ^_^) But the other auctions are usually about $30-$50 items. But with a $1000+ auction, I don't want to take chances about people forging or making false money orders. I've heard of people making fake M.O.'s that look real, but I didn't want to get shafted so I only accepted W.U. and USPS M.O.'s because I know pretty well what they look like. It seems as if every convinience store in the US has a different M.O.
