I have a copy of NES Archon, and I cannot get this thing to work! I've taken an eraser to the contacts, used alcohol, cleaned the NES, many other games have worked, but I can only get a gray screen on this one.
Any other tips would be appreciated 8-)

I use usually put it near the very edge when I put it in my NES. then I wiggle the games around to get them to work. Also try cleaning the NES.
I have only had two DOA NES games. A copy of Tiger Heli and The Immortal.

ahhhh Archon, damn good fun. If all cleaning fails, try pushing the cart foward a bit after you snap it in and/or wiggling it. Good luck.

Or, when you push in the cart, leave a teeny part of it over the lip when you push it down. The edge of the system will guide the angled edge of the cart down, nearly flesh with the front edge, instead of pushed deep into the contacts.

This is the only way I could get my old nes to play games, at least until I bought a top loader :)

It's not a third party cart is it (I don't have and have never played that game)? If it is, your NES may not be compatable.

Thats what I do with the games in one of my nes's. Then I push the cart more towards the 72 pin slowly while it blinks then hold reset down and stuff and it will work. Process takes about 10 seconds for me.

Stick a Game Genie on it. My NES is thoroughly awful, but I find that if I use a Game Genie, the games work almost 80% of the time (compared to about 10% otherwise). You don't have to use any actual codes of course.
If all else fails, you might want to try using some sandpaper on the cartridge contacts... that should get off just about anything. Don't scrub TOO hard of course, or you might damage the cartridge.

Thanks guys...
I tried everything you suggested, and it still seems to be DOA, its the only game of about 300 I own that I havent been able to get to work
Ehh, might just drop it off at game crazy, found it at a yard sale for a dollar, so no big loss

This sounds like the time to replace your toaster's cartridge connector. Only about $12, and well worth it.

DUDE! That's just wrong!
We shop at game crazy and I'm sure we wouldn't want to buy your DOA cart. I know GC has a wonderful return policy but all it takes is enough freakin' abuse to have that policy changed for the worse.
I can't believe you just said that!

Yeah, GC does have a great policy regarding returns.
I just wonder why they still try to sell the copy of MvC 2 for the DC that I bought from them and returned after it would not play in 4 different DCs?! :o

That's life, everything about this world is wrong
If it works on someones elses system, fine, if it doesnt, they can bring it back for a full refund, and I don't think Game Crazy will be out of the 47 cents they would give me for it
you ever look at Game Crazy's Playstation/Gamecube/Xbox games? Scratched all to hell, but they sell them anway....when you buy used, you take a chance, thats what a return policy is for, no corporate game store is based on honesty in the first place
sorry to hurt your feelings
