Every time I start this game up the game invents a new way of getting me killed. Instant death from above? Check. Mines right in front of you? That too. Guys that appear in foxholes that you can't crouch to shoot? Yup.

Besides all of that, looks like this could be an interesting game. The soundtrack seems decent, on the nice side if that's possible. I picked this cart up recently at a Goodwill, and I don't think I'll regret buying it. Let's hope I figure out what to do, now ;P

More thoughts: The graphics are nice, probably the huge status bar has something to do with that.

Just like a real vietnamese soldier, Charlie can kill you even when your boot is touching his forehead.

I have a really funny memory about this game:

I was visiting some of my uncles' friends in Mellen, WI at their lake house. We spent the days snowmobiling and ice fishing, then at night, we'd play Platoon. None of them (in their 50's, mind you) could get to "the bridge." This was around 1992/3, so I hadn't played NES for a few years (I was into the Genesis at that point). So, here we are, my aunt/uncle, and her friends, all in their late 40's/50's and I'm playing Platoon for the first time ever. I reach the bridge and my uncles' friend Evert screams at the top of his lungs in ecstasy while flipping the TV the bird: "THE BRIDGE! *#%(-YOU!!!!!" (Apparently, the bridge was something he couldn't find).

If you were wondering, Evert was retired and had nothing to do but snowmobile, fish, and play Nintendo--he was pretty good at snowmobiling and fishing, but wasn't very good at Nintendo...gotta love him for trying, though.

I haven't played Platoon since...maybe I'll have to find a copy of it and see what happens beyond "The Bridge."

that story is great!

i hated platoon.... the game freaked me out for some reason... i couldnt play it for long, and it was too frustrating, even for me.
if i had Evert to cheer me on, i might have been better at it though

I remember trying to get trew the forest was tricky lucky for me I used to be a member of the Sunsoft News which was a free newsletter sunsoft would print out ocassionally and send out to the people that returned the reply card inside the game. I remember using the map in that newsletter to get trew that part and I dont remember much after that. lol....

Thanks

It's a HARD game, no doubt about it. ;)

But it does a good job of capturing the movie.

Even the scenes from the opening demo are taken from the movie.

Heh, I haven't even found the bridge yet! Suppose I'll have to go back and try again :P
