So, I competed in my first DDR tournament yesterday. I entered both perfect attack 4 -7 and freestyle. I was eliminated in PA in the first round (the guy I faced max combo-ed both of the songs we did), and in freestyle, I came in fifth out of ten.

Observations regarding the tournament:

-The arcade pads are larger than the home pads. This caused problems when I least expected it.
-Next time I'll bring a folding chair (trust me)
-Next time I'll bring a bag to hold my stuff
-Next time I'll practice on the actual machine ahead of time
-Although it was a long day, it was one hell of a lot of fun.

The tourney was video recorded, and there has been talk of placing some of the videos online. If and when this happens, I'll notify you guys.

If you've ever thought of competing and are holding back out of embarassment or anything else, I suggest you do it. I only played three songs in the actual tourney, but today when I went to do my usual practice, I realized that just from watching the tourney, I had improved my skill by almost one whole foot.

Mmmmmmaybe. I'm no good at PA or Freestyle, but I'll probably go to the next tournament just to watch. I'm getting pretty sick of 3rd Mix, that's all my arcade HAS! I want a new machine, preferrably DDR Extreme, but that's asking a bit too much...

This particular tourney was held on a fifth mix machine, but from what I hear, the same arcade may be getting a max soon.
In PA, I got owned in B4U Trick, Era Trick, and I didn't do quite so badly on Stomp to My Beat Trick. I missed about 4 on B4U and 2 on Era, but the guy I faced aced both of them  .

Seriously though, even if you go only to watch, I'd say it's worth it. Like I said, just watching has moved me from being a 6 -7 player to being a 7 -8 player.
