A local grocery store has had it for $10 for months, but I can't get myself to buy it. I've read reviews on it, anywhere from total crap to just above average. I know $10 ain't much, but is it worth even that?

BTW, I like horror-based games- is it like Soul Reaver or Silent Hill?

When it drops to about $2.99 only then is it worth it. It's only my opinion, but this game is a real stinker. Like Soul Reaver, but much much worse.

It is more like a 3D version of Super Metroid, basically you have one big area and you get to new parts when you find the right items. I played it on DC and thought it was fun for a while but started to get really repetitve.

its vastly improved on the DC. if you appreciate a good story and some amazing levels you'll find that in this game, its very, very deep.

worth the time and money on a DC anyday.

I rented it for N64. Crapfest. they really dumbed it down to put it all on a cart.

I've played all three and own tyhe N64 and PSX versions-

The DC version is certainly the best... cleanest graphics.

The N64 cart is in the middle... not a pretty, but most everything else is intact.

The PSX game sucks... choppy, ugly graphics and atrocious framerates.

To be honest, the game really isn't that great... the only thing that kept me playing were the cut scenes and some of the crazy visual imagery. A lot of voodoo, blood, and themes of bondage and sodomasicism, etc.

it goes like this:

if you've never played the n64, pc, or dc versions, it's sorta worth picking up if you're into plot (and you're not some kid living with his/her parents who won't mind a game with a load of cussin' 'n blood "n stuff).

it's an m-rated adventure game with a fairly long action-based quest, huge levels, a decent plot, solid voice acting, sounds and music, and some bizarre imagery. on the other hand, the graphics engine is not up to snuff at all- the character models are aneorexic and just plain ugly; glitches like clipping, poor collision, texture warping and seams all over, plus an occasionally choppy framerate make the game not so hot to look at. UNLESS you consider it like you're in some sort of impressionist painting- then it works a bit better...

that and the fact that the game came out around the same time as soul reaver (sorry, achika, but save for the ending, it's an excellent game)- which had more or less the same plot and similar gameplay, but looked and played much better...

acclaim was (as usual) reaching a bit ahead of themselves with this one- if you look at early shots from the pc version, the game was a lot more detailed both visually and plotwise. according to folks i've spoken to who worked in glen cove at that time, the developer (acclaim tesside, i believe) had to change a lot of elements in the game mostly based on stuff that was going on here in the u.s. at the time...

...such as...???

Thanks for the extensive description, geelw, but I'm still torn...I LOVE M-rated games & a good plot is better than graphics any day for me...guess I'll have to try it myself- might make a costly coaster!

Horrid...just horrid game. I got it from a friend for free. Now I see why he was so willing to give it to me. I think people could crap a better game out of their ass. Poop may stink, but at least it has SOME purpose for existence. Shadowman succeeds only in the stink category.
