Bastard is not the sort of manga I'd be caught looking at. That said, the screenshots look much different from the stuff I've seen in reviews, so...hmm, well, I'll have to try this one out. Could be fun! You didn't say it was fun...in your opinion, IS it fun?

whats the deal with it? its all just big eyed cartoons to me, all i know is the title, which i found amusing.

the game play was neat to watch but as is so often the case with import fighters it will take some playtime to figure how to do anything but get beat up. the prespective is what really makes this game, floating around in semi 3D.

Bastard!! Is also an animated series, your basic evil wizard guy gets "killed" comes back later in another body deal, but the funny thing is in the original version of it, it has ALOT of references to Heavy Metal bands names/songs and as to why Ed may not want to be looking at it, is the main character "Dark Schneider" is often running around nude or barely clothed....while kicking ass @_@

Amusing anime, and I've played around in the game mentioned too, it is pretty cool, its worth a look if you haven't

I really dig the anime. I don't care for the manga as much.

I have played that game for a few hours also. I really dig the game. It can get repetitive after awhile though.

Guess I must've run across some of the borderline stuff, then =P

Kickass anime, very intresting fighting game. Kinda like Space Harrier meets Virtua Fighter.

let's clear up a few things, lol:

the space harrier comparisons are sorta misleading. true, your characters zoom through the air to do the occasional attack, but that's just them switching places when you shift planes with the l + r buttons. the game is closer to a mix of a above average fighter and the airborne fighting styles of psychic force and dragon ball z (hyper dimension, i'd say). it reminded me more of a simulated 3D version of treasure's yu yu hakusho for the mega drive, lol...

there's also a bastard! psx import, but it's a really slow-moving rpg with first person corridior sections similar to tokyo dungeon, and a so-so combat syatem

The manga, by Kazushi Hagiwara, is a violent fantasy series filled with gore, debauchery, and scenes of the alleged hero trying to ravish any female in sight. It's not for kids or the gentle-natured, though a half-clever satiric tone occasionally runs beneath the swords, sex, and sorcery. That, and it's a hoot to spot the constant heavy-metal references: a kingdom called Meta-Rikana (change the R to an L and you'll get it), another country named Iron Maydon, a main character sometimes referred to as "D. Schneider," and so on.

It's pure self-conscious adolescent fantasy kitsch, but there are fun moments if you can get past the gory elements and unsubtle misogyny. Both the comic and the anime video series are available over here, should the game pique your interest in that direction. I'd suggest the animated adaptation over the comic, as the cartoon takes itself less seriously and isn't as demeaning to its female characters.

As for the SFC title, it was supposedly once slated for a European release. Rumor has it that someone, possibly a former employee of a French gaming mag, has a translated prototype.

Actually, there was a fanmade translation patch released for this game a while ago.
