Ok, I'm playing Mario Deluxe on the GBA, the "Super Player version" (i.e. l.e. Lost Levels)...not sure if that makes any difference. I'm stuck in Level 2-2.

There's a massiev gap. Above me, too high for any jump, is a pipe with one of those damn plants. There's a hidden block I've hit with a coin in it but it doesn't let me get on the pipe. The other side of the pit has two vertical blocks that prevent a jump. There's a flying koopa tossed in as well.

I've been trying for 3 day to make this jump to no avail. What the heck am I missing?

"To reach the high pipe, you'll have to jump around to reveal two hidden blocks." (http://classicgaming.com/tmk/smb2-j_guide.shtml)

I think I remember that part...

There's another invisible coin block above the one you already found. It's one block to the left of the first one, about 5 blocks higher. So jump up to the block you already found, move to the left so that you almost fall off of the block, and jump. You should reveal the crucial stepping stone. You should be able to make the jump to the pipe from there.

Good luck!

Got it! Thanks. Only the Japanese would put a block further from the point you need it. LOL

I think world 2-2 was used as world 3-2 in the US Vs. Super Mario Bros arcade game. It took me forever to figure it out then, too. Heh.

Yeah, that's probably right, davidbrit2!

I remember having some sort of list detailing where the VS level came from. Some of them were original SMB levels, some came from the Japanese SMB2, and some were slight variations of other levels. Maybe this list is on the web somewhere. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Back in '94 or '95, when I got Super Mario All Stars, I had trouble with 2-2 so many times... but I finally got through it. Lost Levels is very challenging, but truly awesome.

That's awesome, I didn't even know lost levels were on smb dx and I have had the game since it came out. That shows you how good it is to beat a game once and then stop playing it.

You have to get the high score (300,000) in the original game to unlock it. Die, save and then Luigi's face will appear on the opening menu. The only major change is the fact that Luigi and Mario are exactly alike. Luigi jumped higher or something the SNES version, right?

Luigi jumps higher, but Mario stops faster from a walk or run.

Also, I think the bonus levels 9, A, B, C, and D, are all missing from the GBC version.

I beat the original Famicom Disk version of SMB2 and I remember there being a world 9...anyone know if the levels a-d are there too? I can't remember...

No, the a-d levels are gone, as is world 9. That much I read in a FAQ trying to figure out 2-2.

Aren't the FDS versions the same as the cartridge versions in Japan? That'd be interesting to know.

This is why they decided to introduce us US people to Shyguys and Pokeys instead of submitting us to torture. LOL

But it's a nice game to try and play, i'll give them that. Are Japanese people some sort of Super-Humans or something?

The Japanese ave nothing else to do but read comics and play games. They are perfect through practice.

What was Super Mario 2 called in Japan? Super Mario American Version or something similar?

Not entirely. You can Gameshark your way in, though the game might have had a few end of level issues.

I've got 3 codes on my Gameshark, and I'm not sure which ones you need.

Replace the XX with a level number in hexadecimal, with 1-1 being 0. So 9-1 would be level number 32, or 20 in hex. You guys can play around with it and see what you get.

I have no idea why Nintendo included all the level data for 5 entire worlds, and then made it inaccessible, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised by now.

I'm glad this topic came up, I had totally forgot how I couldn't get past Level 2-2 on The Lost Levels on my Super...Heh I'll try some of the tips in a bit...

I've finished that game on the SNES 9 A B C D and all and its no easy task but not impossible either. Most americans are wussy and can't finish harder games. As far as my knowledge go cheating devices in Japan go, I don't think they exist over there.

heh that's why Japan gave us the Super Mario Bros. 2 that we know of today...VERY easy to beat, one of the most simplest games I've ever played hehe...but still fun! :D

It was called Super Mario Bros. 2 USA.

If I wasn't so worried about fucking up my game save, I'd play around with it.
I'd kill for a portable version of the entire SMB2j. No fancy graphics or anything...just the game, and all the worlds in it. It was a save-fiile game that was actually hard, a rarity if you ask me.

Well, it's never screwed mine up anyway. You could always get one of those cheap memory card backup things, too. If you do mess with the codes, you'll have to make sure the code switch is off, or the game won't boot. Then you flip the switch at the "map" screen between levels.
