Well, last night, I got set for a few hours of CV Lord of the Dungeon. Plugged it in, made sure everything was just right, so no RAM corruption, the usual.

First, go to Diane's Drinking Depot, to collect the characters I spent weeks building up.

Glitch!

Turn off game. Try again. Oh, good- everything seems fine...COLOR CHAOS.

Well, that's that.

Take apart cartridge. Take out battery. Clip it on to the trusty old Radio Shack Battery Tester. Sure enough, it was pretty much dead.

That's one obvious advantage of using passwords or codes...

I opened up my NES Zelda cart this morning to take a picture of the circuit board and noticed a chalky residue near the battery contacts, indicating leakage. :o Needless to say I quickly cleaned that up.

Within the year I will probably replace all of the button cells in my games. No telling how much or how long it will take in one sitting.

Maybe I'll solder in a second battery clip. That way, there'll always be a current. Sort of time it so this happens.

Oh gosh, that's gotta suck, and not 'cuz you spent those weeks leveling up in a CV game (oh the horror, even if this isn't Igarashi's *CV,* the game series, I mean).

Personally, my copy of Link's Awakening has a dead battery -- that sucks to no end. Gotta open that and fix 'er up. Still a fun game to play and see how far one can get though :D
