Just a humble thread so that any and all DP SB:LOC (Line of Contact) players can expand their friend lists and hook up online.

Still trying to build my skills up on the original before I get serious with LoC (don't want to get embarrassed online by all the pros). Anyway, I'm on Mission 7 now and feel pretty confident, so I think I'll start playing LoC this weekend. Add me to your Friends List and I'll keep an eye out for ya!

Bargora, how bad is the situation with LoC? I've been hearing in all the SB forums that people are constantly getting disconnected from games and mysteriously loosing supply & battle points for no reason. When I played, it was a little laggy but I didn't think it was bad as everyone else was saying. Then again, I only played a few games online so far.

Things were pretty rough the first couple of days. I can't tell you how it's going during peak hours, as I've mostly been logging in during the graveyard shift (midnight-6am, eastern time). I haven't lost many VTs lately.

No matter when you play, though, lag can creep in to a session. It's frustrating, and if it gets bad enough you can get kicked from the session, losing your committed force of VTs. Bummer. All in all, though, it's do-able. The thing that upsets me most is that it seems impossible for a U.S. game to run with more than 3 v. 3. Since the maps were designed for 5 v. 5 matches, many of the tactics I'd have anticipated using/seeing just aren't feasible, since your force generally must spread itself pretty thinly.

Is it possible to play this game offline at all?

I want the game, but aren't will to shell out a bunch of extra cash so I can play for the $50 game I just bought,

Nerp, online only. I personally am of the belief that $50 is a bit much, but I bought it anyway. I'm still really green, so playing against or with me probably wouldn't be much fun. :(

Thanks, but what a STUPID move by Capcom. The market for this game is extremely limited as is. Its not too bright to alienate your few customers with online only games who can't play them.

That $50 is the best fifty you could ever spend for your XBox. Everyone, and I mean everyone I personally know that has signed on to Live loves it. I never even considered online gaming until I tried it on the XBox, and I'm completely hooked now.

Its not the $50 for the game that bothers me. I would normally get this game at the drop of a hat. The thing is I can't play the game because I don't have XBL, and I'm not about to get one, especially on a 56K connection.

I know I'm not the only person that won't get it because you must have XBL.

ditto I don't have xbl either and I'm getting the game just for the sake of not needing to track it down when I do go live

but it kinda sucks that it's 50 bucks and no offline modes

You can play LoC offline using system link. Of course, I'll never take advantage of this feature since I don't know anybody that even owns an Xbox, but it's still nice to know that Capcom put it on there. I guess they originally planned on leaving it out of the US version but stuck it back in at the last minute after an outcry from US players.

Well I'll be. I had no idea.

It would be pretty amazing to see two people going at it in the same room with those monstrous setups.

Well, I'll have to register you guys as friends on my XBL account, as soon as I replace my Thompson POS DVD drive, which has decided that my mint condition SB:LOC disc is either damaged or dirty--which it will not say. It started out by doing the D/D hangup at the conclusion of matches (which would prevent the match from being recorded with my pilot, and sometimes also discard all of the VTs I had committed to the match), and ended by just not loading the disc any more with any degree of reliability. Air duster? Check. Q-tip with alcohol? Check.

My anger at Microsoft's perfidy in this matter is boundless.

Butta--where is this online-game forum? Me can't find it. Me just monkey.

Anyway, I was so preoccupied with and demoralized by my failing drive that I allowed Staff Sergeant Rhindle to be KIA'd today. Not intentionally. It was just like "oh, wait. I should have hit eject, shouldn't I" At the time I was playing in a 3 v. 3 match in which the connection dropped one of my teammates at the beginning and my remaining teammate refused to communicate.

The joys of SB:LOC on XBL by M$. WTF?

So does anybody want to tell me how to go about getting a replacement drive for my Xbox? Me is too broke to go out and buy a new Xbox just because M$ is too sh1tty to put reliable drives in its products.

BTW, If you are offended by the use of M$ instead of spelling out "Microsoft Corporation", and would have told me how to do an Xbox DVD drive replacement but for my careless slander, then please disregard all previous uses of "M$" in this post. Bill Gates is the devil. Just kidding.

And for all of this, I still think that SB: LOC rules the roost and is too cool for school. The (likely incorrect) scuttlebutt today was that there was some sort of fix in the works that would allow North American players to actually get 4 vs. 4 and 5 vs. 5 matches going. Too bad my disc is dirty and/or damaged.

PapaStu, you're not going to find SB:Line of Contact in a store unless you pre-order it. So hurry up and do it!

I dunno. My local Meijers store had it in stock. Also, EB had it available for sale (without pre-order) the last time I was in there.

*shrugs*

If they want to stock it without pre-order, that's fine. Good luck selling it, though. Or is there an inordinately high concentration of SB players in Grand Rapids? I imagine that there were just some order clerks who had no idea what they were stocking in. Me, I haven't seen any copies of SB:LOC in the area that weren't pre-orders. But then, I haven't been looking much, really... Must. Destroy. Prom. M2.

Alas, the lament of the Neo-Geo addict.

All right. Sent friend requests to those of you who have bothered to post. What, nobody else is logging in to LOC? Achika? Don't you have LOC, DP? Aargh.

I am in love. The 77-rec (recoilless rifle) is the most beautiful damn thing. Proximity fused, huge blast radius, sets shit on fire. Makes opponents panic when the fire lamps start going off. So they take their hand off one of the sticks and press the extinguisher button. And then you hit them with another round, and they're on fire again! Muahahaha!

Man, I am easily amused.
