View Full Version : Which videogame death would suck the most in real life?

Think about it for a moment: Videogame characters die all of the time in all types of horrible ways. In “Mortal Kombat” someone may rip out your spine and show it to you. Crazy Climber falls 1,000s of feet. Jill Valentine is regularly eaten by the undead. Dig Dug gets crushed by boulders. And there’s more eating, burning, shooting, maiming going on.
So, put yourself into the shoes of any videogame character and tell us which death would suck the most. Imagine that – like in the arcades – you’d have to suffer this indignity three times before “Game Over.” What would be – in your mind’s eye – the most painful, obscenely evil death sequence to suffer through?
For me, it’d have to be Pac-Man. What? That doesn't look too bad? Picture it. When he dies, his mouth opens up to the point where he TURNS INSIDE OUT. Now open your mouth as wide as you can. Wider. Now grab your top jaw and lower jaw and try to fold yourself in half. Gruesome. (It reminds me of T2 when the T-1000 fell into the molten steel. At one point it opens its mouth and turns inside out Just. Like. That.)
Next?
Being pumped with air until I explode (Dig Dug). That's just gruesome.

I'd say drowning/roasting in the 'liquid hot MAG-MA' in Ratchet & Clank. Not only does it burn your ass twice before you sink in it, you have unlimited lives in that game. Damnation, I tells ya. :)

Drowning in shit, ala Conker in the Great and Mighty Poo level.

Hmm I'd have to say of all the ways to die... my least fav would be being eaten alive by a zombie

In the classic game Rogue I used to routinely starve to death. That can't be pleasant.

That guy in GTAIII, who was tortured slowly by those two chicks. You could overhear her say something about 'it' looking like it might fall off, while the dude was screaming....

Having my body squeezed by a giant, senient hand until your head pops like a balloon into a million pieces.

*shudder* That bothered me for a really long time.

Having an evil eggplant slowly suck the life out of you, like in adventure island! LOL

Whatever ways there are to die in Choaniki, those would more than likely be the worst deaths ever. Obviously, having not played any of the games except for the SNES fighter, I wouldn't know what they are. I do not care to venture either.

Pretty much every death sequence from Phantasmagoria. Having soil forcfully "fed" to you with a hand spade, your head slammed into a glass bottle (with the bottle going into an eye socket), a supernatural being ripping your head apart with a thumb in an eye socket and one in the mouth (with a nasty KKRKKKRKTTHHHH sound) and I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting.

everybody knows that the worst would be the pit of death. those neverending holes where you fall until you die. just imagine banging the sides a bunch of times before you starve to death.

dude, that sounded like a cry for a date (sorry if you take it as an insult). don't be lonely, in fact, think of the pit of death, it will make you feel better.

any game where you can die by staying under the water too long and drowning....i personally hate the thought of dying by drowing and even though it isnt too painful...its kinda slow and you pretty much know your gonna die for at least 30 seconds before you do die, so you have time to think about it and panic

Prince of Persia has some really neat ones, spike and other such things.
But, the king of them all is in the Sims. Take out all doors and windows and die of starvation and bladder poisining. Yuck.

I would say in Shadowgate where if you open the wrong coffin you can get "eaten" by the slime, feet-first.
Either that or drowning to death in most any game with a water level.

I dunno. The worst death I could possibly imagine would be getting dipped in boiling oil. The closest video game equivalent I can think of is in Metroid Zero, where Samus is slowly burned to death by the intense heat generated by lava in some rooms. Heaven help you if you go into one of these rooms without the Varia suit.

Right on! The spike death immediately came to mind when I read the subject. That would just suck.
Some other worthy mentions are getting whipped to death by whores with purple afros, ala Double Dragon... and getting beaten to death by a gang of chicks with purses that's led by a big fat lady in a red dress, ala Renegade. To perish in either of those ways would just be wrong.
I haven't played some of these games you folks are talking about, but I always thought that in Lode Runner when you accidentally fall into one of your own holes and it slowly closes around you... that must suck. Not just painful but humiliating!

I'm pretty sure the Space Quest series had some of the most annoying and horrible deaths I can remember. Like: looking into a hole in the rock only to have a claw grab you and pull you into it and throw out your bones after the creature had eaten you. Or: playing the slot machine, only to have three skulls pop up and have the machine shoot a laser at you that turns you to ash. There were lots of others I don't remember, but I hated all of them.

I think Sniderman's mention of Pac Man takes the cake.
For me, though, the worst would be losing all honor by dying at the hands of a bunny rabbit. Name the game.

being swallowed by one of the dragons in atari adventure and then spending the rest of eternity wiggling in his stomach. I always hated that.
