As you can see, we've chosen a retro design to our surroundings. I miss woodgrain. Remember when EVERYTHING was woodgrain? Furniture, walls, video game consoles, stereo equipment... hell, my dad even had a car with woodgrain doors! Well, it's back in style. At least in our little world.

I'd recommend getting used to the new features, there's much much more you can do here than on EZboard, and almost anything is possible since the language that drives this (PhP) is quite open-ended. Get registered, Remember to add in your custom title, signature, and avatar, and then settle in!

You may have seen this before, but here is a list of a few things you can do here that are new to us former EZboard slaves:
- You can now private message someone and they'll get it immediately if they're on the forums, if not, they'll get it when they log in.
- Polls are no longer limited to 5 choices.
- You can upload your own avatar or select from a gallery of custom avatars that I personally created.
- You can create your own custom title (for a limited time - later we'll resume control of this).
- If you don't like our theme (backgrounds, layout, etc) you'll be able to use alternates. This won't be installed right away but it's easy enough to do. You'll like our new theme though. Very RETRO.
- You can view a complete member list, which shows all kinds of stats on each member.
- The date you first joined is logged, and you're assigned an ever-growing user number so the "vets" can easily be distinguished from the n00bs, regardless of post count.
- You can see who's online not just via the tracker at the bottom (like EZboard) but within each post as well, it appears underneath your username in every post.
- Although I haven't thought out how we'll use it just yet, you can join "groups". One possibility would be to have Atari fans/Sony fans/Xbox fans and the like.
- You can see who's browsing each particular forum at any time.
- There is a FAQ built in to the links so if you're not sure about how to use a certain feature, you can get that info while on the forums without having to wait for someone to answer your question.
- If you choose, you can add your AIM, ICQ, Yahoo, MSN, and website right into your profile, and these will be contained in buttons on each of your posts.
- You can change the board's time so that it matches your own.
- The search feature actually works. All the time. And you can search across multiple forums at once, so you never have to "dig around" for old topics.
- All of the custom stuff we added to EZboard in the past will still be available, even the links you see up top to the member photos, calendar, etc.

Welcome home, gang.

What are the different icons for the number of posts everyone has? I've seen strawberries, NEWBIE and MOD (Obviously) so far...

ED: ah it's in the FAQ! But why is everyone a strawberry when they'd qualify postwise for a lot higher?

because it isn't functioning properly!

We'll get it worked out. Still have a few kinks on the production board. The mods did fairly extensive testing on a development version of this so any issues we have should be short-lived.

*fingers crossed*

WooHoo!!!

Opera 5.12 works fine on the new board! This is such exciting news I think it should be a BIG, BOLD, FLASHING BANNER at the top of every page.
---- (No, not every page on the site, every page on the entire WWW, you idjit!.... SHhh, I think they hear us!... Oh Shaddup!)

From now on, the only time I'll need to launch IE is when I go to the MS Support site! Yay!!

Awesome accomplishment guys!

Just out of curiosity, what are the technical details of the new board? What hardware does it run on, where is the hardware, how is it connected to the 'net, etc.... & where does the cash to run it come from?

Inquiring minds (erm, um, well, just little old me...) want to know!

Hey Joe, when U (or whoever's coding it) gets the user groups going, make sure there's a SEGA group, 'cause that's the gang I wanna join. Hey Nintendo fans get off our turf! :agrue:

Everything is absolutely wonderful to see in action. I first viewed it at work today, and now that I'm home on my 56k connection, I can tell that this is going to eat my machine alive ; )

I don't mind though, it's so, so pretty to look at!

This new forum is sweet! AND I can even get that lame "21" out of my name too because the jerk that regged my name on EZBoard ain't here! (or anywhere for that matter, damn name hoarder)

Anyway, this rules!

This place looks and feels great. I've got accounts at gaming boards all over the net, but I keep forgetting my login ids. I'll write this one down.

Oh yes, lovely board and all that.

Just one quick question: There's no "Ignore" function built into this system, is there?

Why do I get the feeling I know why you asked that?

Great move Joe! You keep amazing me with your energy, and where you find time to do all this (I know setting up a board can take hours). I never really liked EZ boards.
I love the woodgrain!

@Jorpho: what's an "ignore" feature? You mean a way to 'not see' certain member's posts?

Jorpho
07-21-2002, 03:54 PM
Aye, one of those. I know, it's not a very nice thing to ask about, but... Well, I won't go into details.

Actually, I'm testing a mod that does this right now... once I've completed my work, I'll let the other mods look it over and see if it's something we want to implement or not.

Oh yeah, the ignore mode, aka the bozo filter. Very useful when someone who grates you is not quite a troll, but still gets on your nerves quite a bit.

BTW, Joe, will there be a javascript-free version of this board? Otherwise, you won't see me at all during work days, not even at lunchtime, since Javascript is disabled at work for security reasons. Worse comes to worse, it's only for a couple of weeks, as my stay there is almost over.
