In the vain of the current contest thread going on about one game, I thought I would ask about another one. I first asked about this over six months ago but never got a response.

Does anyone remember the contest that was done when Castlevania III first came out in October 1990? There was a grand prize of going to Translvania for a week, and seeing Dracula's Castle among other things over there. I think secondary prizes included cash gifts and game merchandise.

All of the boxes that was made with that first run had the big bright red sticker on the front annoucing the contest, and details and a entry form on the last page of the manual. It was hard to miss. :)

I entered, but, of course, never won anything. But the kicker was that I also followed Konami's instructions to get a list of the winners -- and never got THAT either. Makes me wonder if the contest was quietly canceled for some reason.

I've tried e-mailing Konami about this, but the response I got indicated that they did'nt know and would have to check their records and get back to me. I'm not holding my breath on this one.

So, does anyone know anything?

Yes. The contest did go as planned, and there was a winner. My memory is a little unclear, but the grand prize definitely went to a girl.

Now, the story gets a little frayed. Apparently, on the fourth night of the Transylvanian tour, this poor girl is spooked out of her mind. Substantial details were never given about the reason for her anxiety attack, but it is speculated that a planned stunt--featuring a hired actor to portray a vampire--sent her over the edge. Literally. Reports say that she commited suicide by jumping out of a balcony, landing two-hundred feet below on the hillside's jagged rocks.

Obviously, such a twisted sequence of events would completely mar Konami's reputation. Hell, the entire company may have been desecrated, so, sadly enough, the whole shitload was swept under a rug.

*click*. Okay, I turned off the flashlight. Now, it's your turn.

Now that's a hell of a story that could probably go into the Lore section of one of the DP guides.....even if it isn't true.
