Sorry for the shameless advertisement/plug/etc but hey, we don't publish books every day. I am pleased to announce that our next book, the DP Collector's Guide "Advance" Edition that anyone visiting here over the last year has surely heard about, is official!

Though many of our "Classic" Edition team returns for duty in this book, there are many new editorial faces behind this book. It's been a lot of fun working with this team, who have put so much energy and passion into their research on these systems, spanning from 1989's systems to the final games on the PlayStation. The bar has been raised for this group as well, and you'll find that they've answered the call. This Guide is "THE" resource for gamers of this second era.

Two important notes.

1. You can pre-order the book at a 20% discount! See details at
http://www.digitpress.com/dpg_plug.htm

2. You can be a part of this book! Get published and get a free Collector's Guide in one fell swoop. If we use your personal LORE entry (your favorite experience with one of the systems in this book), we'll send you the book free of charge. We've set up a special forum to collect your tales at
http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=35

Please take a moment to check out both links. We're very excited about this release.

Game on, brothers and sisters!

awesome! i'll probably preorder this too. i have a question though. are the rarity lists on the site the exact lists of games that will be in the book, or are there a couple of games that you have discovered and just haven't added to the online list yet? if the lists are complete then i'll make a post or two in the collecting forum soon. :)

Well, the Playstation section will have a heck of a lot more in the book. :)

Early September. Let me know if I wasn't clear in the shipping info both on the ordering page and in the auto-reply e-mail you get from Digital Press HQ when you pre-order. It should be stated "early September" as that's about media mail distance away from CGE2k4.

I thought about this too, and I'll probably have such a deal at a later date. I can't make a commitment with "how" or "when" though. There will be plenty of "advance" guides through 2004 and the latest printing of the "cllassic" guide should take us through the end of the year as well, so there's a good chance that will happen before the close of the year.

How about I stuff as many guides as I can handle in my suitcase (as long as you don't mind them rubbing with my worn clothes) and reselling them here in the UK? LOL

Anyhow, pre-order made :)

Aye, a two-fer deal is a definite, somewhere down the road. Shipping is free within the US, however. So ordering both books or one book won't save or cost you anything.

and what about the germans? :p

i could sell books here for you but i can't afford bying them in advance...

btw, why the heck does it cost 16.90 to ship to germany?????? this can't be true :o

That's because the book weighs more than 1kg you see... and surface, whilst cheaper, would take far too long!

Phoenix costs $9.00 to ship to Germany via Global Prority because it fits in the 'flat rate' envelope. The 'classic' DP guide was just slightly too big to fit in the envelope. If the new guide is a little smaller than the classic one, then it might fit in the flat rate envelope too.

The new guide will be exactly the same size as the old guide, I'm afraid. The numbers you see are real.

I did try to work out some things last time around with distirbution centers (as Mayhem noted, I could send him a few cases and he could distribute, ultimately cutting down costs), perhaps you could be the German distributor since you're part of the team and all :)

YAY! Bought mine! How could I miss this on the front page on the 11th? :eek 2:

I love the color scheme and cover by the way, I don't think you can get much better....now we need an "advanced" skin to choose from on the site! Blue instead of red, new pictures, etc. That would be sweet.

Anywho...I'm off to work on my LORE segment!

I'm hedging.

The CSS is easy enough to change, but there are lots of graphics that would have to be modified for the blue scheme. I think I'll be more motivated to do this AFTER CGE/book release/various secret projects when I have time to track down all of the places on the site that would need the modification.

Trivia: Did you know that the DP site itself has over 2500 pages (and that is about to explode tenfold with the very-soon-to-be-announced "secret project 5" in the coming week)?

By the way, anyone else find it ironic that the "DP Collector's Guide Advance" does not actually cover the Game Boy Advance? No? Okay, just checking.

And also, why is shipping to Austria so pricey? Are there goofy taxes on mail over there or something? I just noticed that when I went to preorder... makes me glad to live in Canada!

I've ordered mine...I guess we don't have to worry now about whether there will ever be an update to Video Game Bible :D I'm probably happiest about the inclusion of the Playstation system. I wonder just how many games have come out on that system...is it the system with the largest number of titles available for it?

Hey, I just noticed something else... on the description page, it lists Super Nintendo and Super Famicom as seperate systems, and same goes for PC-Engine and TurboGrafx-16... does this mean that these will actually have seperate sections in the guide rather than the traditional "US Releases" and "Non-US Releases" subsections?

DP guides are the best and I will definitely order this one. However, anyway you could send it it a padded envelope? Both DP guides I have ordered came with the binding already messed up from the sloppy treatment media mail gets (and you know how collectors are about condition!). Are there other ordering options (like the priority box)?

You ask some damn good questions. I typically do these things on "hunch" but they're subject to change. My thought process has been that these two systems are much better known by their import names AND we have very solid listings for them. The same could be said of Mega Drive. Will they be listed as separate sections or as "non-us releases"? That remains to be seen. I may simply have the page header show "Genesis/Mega Drive" or "TurboGrafx-16/PC Engine/Duo"... ultimately it will depend on aesthetics. Either way, the import version of the US system WILL appear immediately after the US version, regardless of where it falls out in the alphabet.

I don't have an answer to your question about high shipping charges to Austria. It just works out that way for some reason.

Who else has questions that I can barely scratch the surface of an answer for? :)

To throw my 2p in here, as the Megadrive ed, I'd prefer to see them listed under 'Non-US Releases' in the Genesis section (with the section ideally titled 'Genesis/Megadrive'). Although it's just Euro/Australian/Brazilian games I've covered, not Japanese MD stuff (nearly 600 games is quite enough already, thank-you :) ).

Still, as long as it's all there somewhere, it doesn't really matter, does it?

From here out, yes indeed. I wouldn't have included the TurboGrafx-16 in this first release of the advance guide but 1) the prices and scarcity of TG-16, especially Duo CD's have changed drastically since 2002; 2) the PC Engine section is new and getting a very nice overhaul/treatment from Nate "Maxlords" Van Lindt.

Executive decision.

"Invading their turf"? Nah. For starters, Andy himself has said to me that he feels we have two very different products. I had some concerns myself when Video Game Bible announced a "classic" guide back in 2002 (I don't think it's been released yet). Our book isn't meant to be a chart-buster, and it will never be a livelihood, just a means to get the info documented somewhere so gamers and collectors have a resource. And it's FUN to do. So consider the two books friendly brothers. You really should be buying both anyway!

As for "secret project 5", it is very nearly ready to be unveiled. Hang on for just a day or two while SpasticFuctard here and I tighten up a few bolts. Tomorrow... Thursday at the latest :)
