Two interesting ones, too!

http://www.angelfire.com/my/hotNsoup/mega2.mid

This is a request from GameSpy Forums (http://www.forumplanet.com/gamespy/topic.asp?fid=1897&tid=1314909), and if anybody knows what they are be sure to let me know :)

I can tell you that they aren't from Chrono Trigger, I'm 100% certain of that (sound nothing like CT anyways).

wow

...............

I have no FUCKING CLUE. Except, for some reason, the second one definitely sounds like it came off of a genesis to me. Not sure why.

Hnmm, the guy says he got them when he downloaded "a lot of anime and stuff," so they may or may not be from a game, or perhaps one is and one isn't. Sounds nothing like any anime soundtrack I've heard, though (all...four?...of them)

Holy crap, guy!

Sorry for the thread necro but hotNsoup is MY old (and admittedly crappy) homepage! I remember that I used to go on the "anime web turnpike" and find things from there.

Ah the good old days with mspaint angelfire graphics and .midi files ... I still have them you know. Here I'll mediafire ALL of the old midi files for you guys.

All I can tell you about mega1 and mega2 ... is that they are likely from an anime or an unorthodox game .. given their length they are definitely songs with chorus. Maybe an anime that contains the word "megami" ? I recently began thinking about where these old things came from.. most of them are easy enough to locate but not mega 1 & 2. :)
I am positive that mega1 and mega2 are from the same source. Whatever that may be... also "dreams[1].mid" was playing in the background of a new age website and could be from anywhere.

If you're interested in detective work then download those midis! ;)

No problem.

You were right about mega1.mid and mega2.mid coming from the same source. They're from an OVA called Megazone 23. This site: http://members.fortunecity.com/animearmageddon/Midis.html calls the tracks "Eve's Song" and "The Garland", respectively. I couldn't see these songs listed on any of the soundtracks available for it. Most likely they are there under a different name, or perhaps they were written specifically for the English dub--which can easily be found on YouTube, actually.

EDIT: mega1, "Eve's Song", is called Pandora No Fune and can be found on the Megazone 23 Vocal Collection CD, where it is track 12. I am still looking for "The Garland..."

dreams[1].mid is an original tune by Margi Harrell, who composed music for her own ecard site, "LLERRAH ecards". You weren't far off on the whole new-age thing. It can be found here: http://llerrah.com/jukebox.htm along with many other tracks by her. Dreams was included on one of her CD's, "Hopes, Dreams and Meditations". You can hear a sample of the song on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Hopes-Dreams-Meditations-Margi-Harrell/dp/B00020M0LA

You are amazing, pacman! :D Thank you so much for your great work!

Haven't said that in a few years. Haha!
I doubt ed oscuro, who wanted the sources, have been keeping tabs on this thread for years. So I'll shoot him a email out of courtesy. :)
Once again many thanks!

Not a problem, Aspgren. Bet this'll come as quite a shock to Ed!

I'm sorry for the late bump, but I wanted to put down my thanks for clearing up this mystery. I'm not much of an anime guy (I know that there's Gundams and Macross, and not much else) but I've heard of Megazone 23. Given the date of its release, it seems safe to note that it was NOT Genesis (or Mega Drive) inspired. I guess that it would have been possible for them to use a synthesizer that used chips pretty similar to those in the Genesis, but it's interesting that the compositional style would have been similar. The name is a cute coincidence - whenever I saw the name "Megazone" I thought "that sounds a bit like Mega Drive..." but didn't know to make any other connection. :)

Happy new year, everybody!
