Best PSone CG intro?

...But what are your votes for the best PSone game CG intro?

My Votes go for Soul Edge & Ridge Racer Type 4.

Does it have to be CG or can it be animated?


If it's pure CG, I'm giong fishing for haters because I have to go with Final Fantasy VII


If we're talking animated as well, Wild Arms easily trumps that. I still get chills watching the Wild Arms intro.

My vote goes for the intro video for Chrono Cross (I probably wouldn't have remembered how awesome it was unless it had been brought up in another topic).

Also, for anyone even remotely interested in Chrono Cross and/or Nine Inch Nails, someone made a video with various CGI clips from Chrono Cross put to NIN's "Even Deeper". It is awesome, even the syncing seems perfect. search for it on Kazaa.

There is just something about that scene in the Soul Edge intro where Mitsurugi (I think) is lit as a silouette with the setting sun and then makes short work of two soldiers in a field of high bladed grass (or maybe it's wheat). Anyway, it's F-in awesome.

Favorite part of the Soul Blade/Edge opening was Sophitia bathing...*ahem* that and a customer walking into the store as the CG intro is playing, and going "Oh my god...they're *real* now!" LOL

As far as true favorite overall oh man...I dunno.... :eek 2: too many good ones to choose from...

I'm going to give a nod to this trio - Gradius Deluxe Pack, Salamander Deluxe Pack Plus and Gradius Gaiden. All four (SDPP has two openings) show the Vic Viper in action, and all are beautifully rendered, giving you a good look at what you'll encounter in the game.

EA Sports had some real good ones. I remember renting NHL 99 just to see the intro. The NCAA's rocked usually as well.

However, I'll also toss my vote in for Soul Blade. Just wow.

Side note: I actually have about a 2 hour VHS tape hanging around somewhere where I taped all the PS One's early intros. It was the first thing I taped when I found out you could actually do it. So many classics there: Gex, RE, Philosoma, etc. I so have to find that tape.

wow, that's sweet, i was thinking about taping scenes of every dc game as soon as my collection is complete (digital taping though LOL ), don't know what to do with those then though...

I forgot about Einhander (mentioned above) Good Call! (awesome game) and I was very WOWed by Tekken 2 ... the individual strands of Nina's hair and Yoshimitsu's spinning hand... and the best of all was when Armor King gives the *drunk as F**k King his mask. WOW.

There was another thread about how the PS series is an abomination to the gaming industry - and well this thread is proof that the PS sure as hell moved a lot of us, by intros alone.

oh...good call on Abe's Oddysee...that get's my vote. I was gonna pick Chrono Cross (we used to watch it over and over). FF8 was cool too.

I wish i could remember the intro for Vagrant Story, i'm sure it was badass as i remember really liking the cinematics and story. Too bad i couldn't stand the gameplay after 15 hours (tried twice) :o

Gotta agree with FF8 (didn't even like the game, but it was a ncie intro. Nobuo Uematsu does fantastic work in the Booming Dramatic Choral Stuff category), Wild ARMs, and Chrono Cross. I think I spent more time watching the opening than I did playing the game. :)

I can't believe nobody's mentioned Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete yet. I couldn't help but watch that just about every tiem I turned the game on. You know, the one thing in common with all of these is great music. I guess I just can't pass up a really good music video :)

What's real? Sophitia's breasts? (perplexed) For the 20th time yes Soul Edge is the best intro!!! At least we all agree. LOL

ANYTHING by Square, especially Parasite Eve, FF8, Chrono Cross and Ehrgeiz.

R4 (my top fave), Turismo 2, Toca 1, Dino Crisis......and about a bazillion others.

My favorite next gen CG is definitely Onimusha #1.
