is the connector the red, white and yellow plugs? like there are for the N64?

If you mean by the AV connector, yes SNES do have R/W/Y connectors for standard AV hookup (you'll need a Y adapter to convert to mono only sound)
FWIW SNES can use the same cable N64 and GC uses so it's easy to find replacement cable. You can also use S-Video on older SNES (newer SNES doesn't have S-Video)

most of the really big titles let you pick mono audio in a setup. just a fyi :D
