Same idea for me.

A way long time ago, dumping my N64 and a library of 32 boxed games in mint condition for a PSX 9001 and a fistful of games. I had to see what the other side had to offer.

Soon afterwards I bought another 64 and since then I've become an avid N64 collector, but I can't recover the titles that I sold in quite the condition that I originally had them in.

My N64, NES and Genny stuff do not get traded in....ever. I learned something, I guess.

I have a couple moments I really do regret...

-Getting rid of my N64, to buy a PS1(PS1 is great, but selling systems is always a bad idea)
-Buying Superman 64!

-Buying Space Ace for the Super Nintendo. Ugh. What a piece of crap. I spent 20 minutes trying to get past the first part of the game and I couldn't dodge the shots being fired at me more than 4 times. I finally gave up, and returned it to Gamestop, exchanging it for Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure (also for SNES). The only way I'd ever buy Space Ace again is if I decided to go for a complete SNES collection someday.

-Selling Super Mario RPG for $20 back when I was in high school. I don't know what the hell I was thinking.

-Same with Mechwarrior 3050 for SNES... but I didn't get a fair deal on that one.

-Losing most of the boxes and manuals to a lot of my SNES games back in the day.

Selling my Wacky Races NES game, and also the other game with the shooting targets I forgot the name of with the balloons and dishes and such (help plzz)

Since I was a looseless kid owning systems, well.... not everything i have is in great condition. I am glad I kept the boxes out of light though (good thing for living in dark areas)

Trying to play Nights without the 3D controller LOL

and, in 4th grade, after hearing a kid's story of how a burglar broke into his house and stole his saturn, being the smartass i was i said 'Dont worry, no one cares about saturns anymore'. I want to kick myself in the nuts then, since I'm hounding after Saturn games now. well, then again, it was around the time of it's death x_x

Getting rid of my turbo grafx and games, to this day I can't remember what I did with them. It's not so much the system but the games, there are several I've been trying to get back now. Also, trading in my copy of Symphony of the night. I had bought it for next to nothing so I was extatic when I found out I could get way more in trade in then what I paid. I sure miss that game now, I can't wait to find it again.

The only thing I can think of right now was selling the original Final Fantasy, manual, map, and all, when I was only about four years old. I couldn't figure out how the hell to play the game, neither could my brother. It was just too frustrating, and Garland actually managed to knock us all down, several times. Not knowing how it could be played, manual or not, we sold it. Sure, I own it for the NES now, but I just have the game, and not anything else. This is why I'm not selling anything that I currently have. I probably never will, unless finances become truly desperate. :o

I've made a load of mistakes, but the worst was getting rid of my NES Star Force prototype along with a shitload of NES games including Mega Man 1-6, Ninja Gaiden 1-3 (#3 being complete) and Castlevania Trilogy. Also had an Alladdin Deck Enhancer and Tengen Tetris (luckily no game stores took Maxi 15 cartridges or it'd be gone also). But yeh. Now it'll cost a load to get them all back.

No one has any game PLAYING moments they regret? It's ALL about collecting and getting rid of stuff?

Mine is probably the time I broke my friend's nose after he 'accidentally' reset the NES after I won a game of Baseball Stars. I didn't get the money, didn't get to power up my shortstop... so I threw him off the couch. Unfortunately he landed on his face. Ow. I think we were 16.

Another was watching another friend catch an ass whuppin from his father because of Zelda. We'd sat there for like 5 hours trying to beat the blue knights, the whole last hour his mother telling us to stop playing and go outside. When we finally beat the knights, we went nuts, jumping all over the furniture and being generally insane. His mother came in and turned the NES off BEFORE WE SAVED and told us to go outside. My friend had a monster tantrum calling her every name he could think of in English AND Italian... and then his father decided enough was enough and gave him a whuppin. The whole time I'm sitting there like "uh, I don't THINK he'll whup me... but maybe he will, who knows?" He didn't.

How many more people have PLAYING regrettable moments? I suspect that's what the original poster wanted.

All the games I bought, but didn't like, or because my brother begged me to get them..

Some of them I can think of:
Phantasy Star Online 1 & 2 for Xbox. I'm still paying for it.
Viewtiful Joe (Paid the $35 for it. Don't really like it.)
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. (My brother loved it. Until he beat it.)
Soul Calibur II (My brother begged me. I only got it because we had an original cased one and not a PC version. Fortunately it was only $20.)
Pac-Man World 2 Players Choice (Turns out, it couldn't hold my interest long enough.)
Star Wars Clone and Tetris Worlds (The Tetris has no freaking score board! WHAT THE FUDGE? It's NOT TETRIS without a SCORE YOU DUMBASSES!! I did like the variations, but I guess I should have invested in one of the PSX or N64 ones.)
The Sims Bustin' Out (Turns out, I remembered I didn't really like The Sims much.)

I keep saying I'll sell some of this stuff, but the former collector in me keeps telling me no. Dammit. So I'm stuck.

Most my regrets are not picking up certain titles when I had the chance. Such as not getting Panzer Dragoon SAGA for Saturn at $50. Begging for both the powerpad and powerglove as a kid. Having horrible taste in games as I was little. The only good thing I have ever done was pick up mint Dracula X for PCE at about $50. Guess that makes up for all my blunders.

Now that I've recently picked up another Dreamcast I'm severely regretting the day that I dumped my original system and rather large "all new" DC library....in favor of the then new PS2. Dumbest thing that I've ever done.

All of the DC games that I'm seeing in the wild are badly scratched beyond what I usually accept. My "new" DC library is going to have to look like shit.

When I was about 6 or 7(and didn't collect games or systems), I helped my mom throw away the old Intellivision system(complete with box, manual, inserts, everything. From when it was new), and about 50 games(all complete with box/manual/overlays/inserts, like new). Just because it was "Taking up space" in the closet!!! :(

Not buying a brand new complete Sega Genesis with Sonic 3D Blast from Wal-Mart with a bunch of games. The systems were $20 and all games were $5!!!

Buying Superman 64 for full price!!!

Giving my Nintendo 64 away because I didn't care and I was getting a PlayStation. X_X Luckily a few days later when we went to the store I came to my sences, and got an Ice Blue Nintendo 64 system(which I will never sell or give away!)

Buying a PlayStation instead of a Dreamcast in 2000(don't get me wrong, PSX is sweet, but DC is just the best).

Playing Twisted Metal 3, for a long time I actually thought this was a great game, what was wrong with me?

Saying "Sega Saturn is just a 2nd rate PlayStation" Please don't kill me, I love the Saturn now, but this was back when it was dying and all I had mostly seen for it were the crappy games.

I remember literally THROWING AWAY my NES stuff in high school. The console itself wasn't working, so my borther threw it out. We didn't see much need for the games without the console (and I was big into the SNES, and TG16) so I threw those away as well. Nothing super rare or anything, just the classics such as mario, zelda, contra, final fantasy, etc.... Now that I collect I rue the day I trashed that stuff. Although we didn't keep our stuff in the best of shape so it was no big loss.

at least that's what I try and tell myself :grrr:

I passed on complete copies of Suikoden II and Tactics Ogre, Suikoden II for $50 and Tactics Ogre for $35. Since then, I've gotten two Suikoden IIs to feel better about it. I have yet to get Tactics Ogre. I also regret losing my Snowboard Kids 2 game. And selling my N64 and a LOT of games to get what I thought was a huge amount back then (it's been about two years). I regret that, since that was before I was a collector.

Hmmm....loooong list.

I regret:

-Picking up that damned FF7 official strategy guide in EB and reading it before I owned the game. It spoiled one of gaming's best moments for me (death of Aeris)

-Selling my SFC Jr., AV Famicom, CDX, Wonderswan, Saturn, R4 Limited Jogcon boxset, and tons of other stuff.

-Not buying Elemental Gearbolt last weekend for $20

-Not buying that mint white Saturn in Hong Kong for $80

-Losing the poster that went along with my VERSUS FF7 Guide

This list could go on forever....I am just a walking gaming tragedy.

I've sold my N64 together with a boxed Zelda and Mario 64. Still don't regret it at all... But what I regret is throwing away all the boxes from my Super-Nes games. At least I have the manuals but I wouldn't do this again.

Regarding moments in gaming itself: I've beaten Baldur's Gate for the first time (on the PS2) and because of this an extra mode opened up. Guess it was extra hard or something like that. When I wanted to open it I had to load the warrior from the saved game to play. Unfortunately I pressed the wrong buttons and instead of loading the warrior I've deleted the saved game. Which meant I had to restart from scratch with playing...

God, I feel everyone's pain in this thread.

Here's what I've gotten rid of over the years. Please note that I'm now getting back into everything that I've pawned, and am currently paying out the *** to do so. So, as a note to everyone out there that hasn't figured this out: DO NOT, under any circumstances, get rid of your games. Keep them. I guarantee you, sometime down the line, you'll get that nostalgic feeling and want to experience them again. Just don't do it. Please.

Anyway, here's my list of the things that I've gotten rid of over the years:

Turbo Duo system, with many classic games (Ys, Cosmic Fantasy, Beyond freaking Shadowgate, you name it. This one hurts the most, btw. I had the Duo when everyone else was going crazy over the SNES. I remember getting Beyond Shadowgate at a store for cheap. Imagine getting that game at an actual store. I'll stop rambling now.)

Sega Saturn system with Pro Action Replay 4-in-1, Dragon Force, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Guardian Heroes, Radiant Silvergun (I remember buying this at EB because I thought it looked cool, and it was) and many others.

PSX games: Suikoden 1 & 2, Persona 1 & 2, Valkyrie Profile.

Dreamcast, Gameboy with Castlevanias, and Chrono Trigger, Illusion of Gaia, and many others for SNES.

What's sad is that a lot of these trades went toward store credit or something equally as stupid. I'm kicking myself everyday for getting rid of this stuff.

years ago I needed money to pay bills so I pawned my genesis and 28 games and the snes back when games were 59.00 and the systems were 200.00 he gave me 80.00 when I went to pay him back 3 days later and pick up my stuff he told me the genesis and games were gone. First time in my life i wanted to kill someone. I was young and he clearly took advantage of me.hence never again and he has since gone out of business and I rebuilt my empire. But what goes around comes around.

Selling all my remaining SNES games to my manager because I only wanted boxed games and now I'm not sure it was smart because I keep seeing boxed only on eBay

Not telling my manager not to sell 3 boxed mint NES games we had bought from a customer a couple of weeks ago that he brought home to test; I asked him to bring them back to the store so that I could see them and in the morning a lady who we presume owns a store at a flee market(stores at flee markets around here sell games at outrageous prices) came in and bought the three games for practicaly nothing. Those games where Zelda, Adventures of Lolo 3 and fire N' Ice; I could have gotten them for 5$ each and now she'll probably sell them 40 and up

Collecting Regret: A year or so back my Sega Genesis RF cable starting crapping out on me. A couple of days later, I spotted a copy of Sonic Mega Collection for the GC. I thought "I'd better buy this as a back up in case my Genny RF cable dies on me." Unfortunately, that's exactly what happened. Since my Genny was pretty much useless without the RF cable, and because I would have a hard time finding a replacement, I decided to sell off the original versions of the Sonic games and keep the Mega Collection. Boy, was that a mistake! Not only did I only get $20 bucks credit from the store I traded them to, but a couple weeks afterwards I found out that my Dad could fix my RF cable for me! Of course, by that time my games were long gone from the game shop. Oh well, at least I was smart enough not to sell the rest of my Genesis collection.

Gaming Regret: It was while I was trying to beat the final boss of Sonic's section in Sonic Adventure. I had just delivered the final blow. However, I was totally caught off guard my Eggman's last ditch attempt to get me. (For those who haven't played the game: after you land the final hit on Eggman, he flies crazily around the screen. Then he tries get you one last time by crashing in the platform you're standing on. The piece of the platform he lands on breaks off, and he falls into the pit for good.) It spooked so much, that I accidently fell off the platform and died!

Collecting wise, it would be how many times a Super NES slipped between my fingers because I bought something PlayStation-related beforehand. Shortly after I bought my PSX, spending all my money on it (This was back in 2004), a garage sale advertising a Super NES popped up. A few months later, I missed out on another Super NES at a garage sale (In perfect condition with games in equal condition) because I had just bought Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Battle 22 a day prior.

That is followed closely by trading in my copy of Kirby's Dream Land 2 in a desperate attempt to get that last bit of money I needed to buy a copy of New Super Mario Bros., only to get $.50 in credit for it.

Gaming wise, it would be giving up on Castlevania: Symphony of the Night when I got to the boss fight against Richter. I kept attacking, yet he took no damage at all; like he was a brick wall. It wasn't until after I had deleted my save file, when watching my sister play (Who was at the same point I was), that I realized what we where doing wrong; we where using holy weapons against him. I felt so stupid for deleting my file once I figured out I needed to be using anything but holy weapons on him.

Hi,

This was back in 1985-1995 era.

- Selling all my NES games and console back when we went to get the SNES
- Selling all my SNES games and console to buy n64
- Selling all my n64 games and console to buy PS1
- Selling all my PS1 games to get money for something not game related...

Since then i havnt bought a new age system, my brother bought ps2 and now has ps3 and he has wii.

Iam almost done re-collecting NES and SNES and will start with n64. (complete sets)

Back then i had over 80 games for NES, 127 SNES games and about 22 games for the n64, was a hell of a garage sale, moms go nuts over cheap priced games
