I had never played any games in this series until a few weeks ago. :)
On the advice of a friend, I picked up a used Breath of Fire 1 and 2, the remakes for the GBA. I played both games but did'nt care for them too much -- the first one seems just like a simple hack and slash game while the second one is WAY outdated. I guess I've been spoiled by modern RPG's. :)
I do have some questions about the games, though --
Are the GBA versions of 1 and 2 straight ports from the SNES versions or did they add/change anything?
Are any of the other BOF games being ported to other series?
Just how many ARE there, anyway? Was'nt 3 and 4 for the PSX and 5 for the PS2?
Can you name some other RPG games that the later ones are very close to?
Finally, this last part may come to contain spoilers. :D
Although I was'nt too impressed by the gameplay in Breath of Fire 2, I DID enjoy the music, the charcters, and the story. It just was'nt enough to convience me to finish it. I believe I only got about a 1/3 of the way through.
The game starts with your main charcter being a boy that goes into a cave looking for his sister (I think) on the request of your grandfather. Inside, you run into a demon with a disturbing message and fall asleep. When you wake up and go outside, you find the world seems to be the same but no one knows who you are, or what happned to your grandfather and sister. It kind of reminds me of Chrono Cross, and I love settings like that. (Like I said, too bad I found the game so dated and boring to play to finish it.)
Since I'll never finish it, though, I'm dying to know -- do you find out what happened to the main charcter and does he manage to get back to his real world? :)
