As they say, reality is stranger than fiction:

Monthly Hardware Sales: (September)
========================
PSOne: 240,343 (up 56%)
XBox: 172,748 (up 26%)
GC: 167,162 (up 30%)

EDIT: PS2 sold ~500,000 during September (just in case you were curious). So, PS2 is selling 2 consoles for every PS1 console... 3 PS2s for every X-box/Gamecube. It's a repeat of what happened in the PS1 v.N64 war. Sony is smashing the competition. Again.

I almost feel sorry for Nintendo and their investors. They've become like Intellivision... second-place to Atari domination. Now it's Sony that is dominating.

I wonder if Sony has an advantage since they are well-known by the general public for TVs, stereos, VCRs, et cetera? It could be that brand-loyalty in action.

Did Sony produce any gaming consoles prior to the PS1?

@theaveng: when you post these kinds of stats, could you let us know what the source is? It's hard to discuss something that could be based on pure conjecture. Thank you.

Well, PS1's cost what now? $50. That's the price of a game and then taking into account how many are being bought as replacements for older PSX's...

Did the list factor in GBA? Or is GBA in a list by itself as seeing there's no competing portable system.

I'd like to see the source of the list. There's a few sites out there that tended to inflate the numbers by omitting certain info (like was the list based on recent sales or sales from December of last year?)

Just ask Shinji Mikami, creator of Resident Evil and firm believer in the fact that the Sony Playstation has a "planned obsolescence"...

Yup I'm afraid this fact is true, my old faithful gaming friend mentioned this to me yesterday saying Sony has their shit together interms of selling, well when ya think about it, Americans love a sale so it kinda makes sense, Microsoft might be starting to feel the pinch hence offerings of limited edition Xboxes (2 games in 1) are now starting to appear. I want to see all 3 consoles do well but the reality is that all 3 cannot stay on top forever, the trickle affect will eventually start to take over. What bothers me about the Xbox is that its software is still not being recieved well by the Japanese and if Microsoft cannot carve a nich in that market, well, I'm sure you gamers know what will eventually happen :( My people (yes I am a quarter Japanese) take so much pride in anything that is created by them (hence Sony PS2 domination across the sea) that they have yet to allow an American made console to peacefully enter their homes, its unfortunate but those are the facts, I hope all 3 companies will do well in 2003, cause stronger competition means better software and better gaming ideas for us gamers right? :wink:
