Would you call this Genesis Controller a Blockbuster Exclusive?
Or............

I think I have 2-4 of these...I'm not sure where I got them..I may even have a Genesis System with an imbedded Blockbuster Sticker on the bottom of it.. with the big pile of Gennys I have lying around here.
I never gave these Controllers a second look until I remembered the sticker on the back.. after reading all the Blockbuster Exclusive threads.
Or was this some sort of Rental item used by Blockbuster..?
Or an aftermarket Genesis Controller made by Blockbuster ..
If it is..What else in gaming did they make as an aftermarket product?
The imbedded Blockbuster Sticker just struck me as sort of odd..
Thanks..

Thery're not so much exclusive as "that store's version" of the controller. EB Games, EA, Game Stop, Blockbuster, even Radio Shack and others all had deals with the major third party licensing to produce cheap controllers with thier brand name. I know for a fact that Interact provided Radio Shack with their products, which were literally just Dual Impacts 1/2s in different boxes.
They're pretty fricken common to be honest.
On a side note, anyone notice that Mad Catz and Microsoft seem to be buddy-buddy on certain accesories? I noticed that the Music Maker microphones and certain versions of the first party RF Switches are all Madcatz brand, just with the XBox logo on them.
However, you ever see a TG or Genesis controller with the "LaserActive" logo on it, then you pick it up pronto!
I bought a cheap controller like this from EB, back in the day, with orange buttons. Not a great purchase.

Microsoft has licensed Mad Catz to make a number of accessories. Sony originally licensed them to sell the 8mB memory cards a few years ago for the PS2 (I believe that license has now been shifted to Nyko...?)
I also have one of the Genesis controllers, except I have the manf. sticker on mine. I believe they were all made by Recoton (sp.) It's got the same words, blue buttons, color plastic, etc. I think I picked it up at a NYC flea market last year.

As far as I know both Nyko and Mad Catz were licensed to make these cards around late 2002, as Sony was having a massive shortage of memory cards at that time. A few months later there was word that Sony was going to stop licensing out the memory cards, but I still see Nyko cards all over the place, and they still get shipped to the CC I work at. Maybe it was just Mad Catz that lost the official license from Sony.
