First post!

There's something I need to ask, because it has been driving me crazy ever since I was shown this site about a week ago... The one eye'd alien in the intro clip to this site... WHAT GAME IS THAT FROM? I know I've seen it, and it is driving me completely insane trying to figure out where it is from. Can anyone please help me rest tonight? :)

yeah....every since i went to the site i never liked the intro, maybe cause i just never got it sorry. So I added the site to my favorites but it goes to digitpress.com/index 2 so I dont have to look at the intro.

I hear that. It's a great little animation, but I've always hated splash pages. No problem; I simply added the main menu page to the weblinks on my home page.

While we're on this, I have a question.

If I'm on the mainpage reading news, and I decide I want to come to the forums, I always get stuck with that damn link frame on the left while I browse the forums. Anyway to shake that other than linking directly to the forums (or typing the forum address in)?

You think that's bad, try going to the site while at work, forgetting you have your monitors speakers turned on. LOL

Assuming a Windows system, rightclick the forums link, and choose Open in a New Window. Close old one. Zing!

I just right-click opened the new window then bookmarked the forum so I have one link for the main site and one direct for the forum.

I'm sure Space Fury ids great, but I hate that intro!

It's always been too loud and too horrible-sounding, imo. :D

Yesterday me daughter got on the computer before me and turned the speakers all the way up. When I got on I went to the digital press site. That intro was so loud I nearly flipped out of my chair!

I hope you all realize that the INTENTION is to create a shocking, obnoxiously loud intro. It's there so you remember who we are. Shocking and obnoxious.

And I know you're all smart enough to use http://www.digitpress.com/index2.htm as your home page :)

My homepage is http://www.digitpress.com/forum ... when I'm done here, I check out the front page. Maybe it's backwards but it works for me.

Yeah, what Flack said.

Aw, what the hell.....since were bitchin':

I don't like the "recent posts" on the front page. DP is set as my home page so if I need to go on to look at another site, it registers as a visit and any new posts are lost when I stop in the next time. That's mildy annoying to say the least.

*end gripe*

Same for me. I go for the /forum address directly, so I have a larger viewing area (without the frames).

I like the Space Fury intro, except for one technical problem that has nothing to do with Digital Press and everything to do with Explorer on Mac OS 9: IE for OS 9 has really bad memory management when it comes to Flash. After a while, it just stops acknowledging flash pages and I keep on getting messages about not enough memory for flash, etc. (I already tried increasing the memory allocation, to no result).

So, I only go through the DP splash page when I'm on Steve's computer (the Flash issue doesn't apply to IE for OS X) or when I've just started IE on my iMac.

Joe, would it just be possible to add a tiny "skip" link on the splash page for newcomers who might not be able to view the animation for whatever reason?

or some kind of text link underneath it for those who can't download the plug in due to the fact that they're not the system administrator?

Nah, no skip link. You can just click the animation, even before the music starts, to jump to the next page. If you panic ENOUGH you'll do that instinctively. I know because I've seen it happen in person :)

Are you sure?

It shouldn't be registering a visit from you, Matt. Can you double-check that? The script that's on the front page is a "read only" with html links that take you to the forum, but you're not actually on the forum at all. Further, there are other sites using the same script and it doesn't do this with them either.

Let me know.

100% sure. Last nights example:

Freind comes over. I get my ass handed to me in Puzzle Fighter for 2 hours (quite rare to say the least). We come upstairs, open up IE, DP is displayed. Go right over to E-bay, looks around. Freind leaves 20 minutes later. Come back to DP, only 5 new posts since about 4 o'clock. It was well after 6 when I came back.

It doesn't happen EVERY time, but probably 75% of the time. Same thing happens to me at Cheapassgamer. Now, about those Amiga games.... ;)

Heck, I didn't know it would load inside a frame if you accessed it from the main site...it's been that long since I visited through the main site layout. Come to think of it, I found this forum through a web search for something or other, so I don't believe I ever used the main site to get here. o-O

I agree :D

But like the other people have done. I just book mark the homepage.

I've always clicked the animation to enter before the sound starts, and I get to the forums by clicking the random system picture at the top of the /index2 page. When I login, the left menu bar automatically disappears. I'm using the Chronicles skin, so that may have something to do with it.

Well, on the iMac (where I only have OS 9 running), Netscape is not better at all (they both suck). Heck, I still have an old copy of Netscape 4 installed somewhere in that computer!

As for the other puter (with Jaguar)... I dunno why I even bother with IE. Sheer habit, I guess. Especially since we did install Safari.

I use Safari, but please use anything but IE. Break the habit and trash it if you have to. ;) You're stuck using such unupdated dead browser technology. Especially since even MS isn't gonna be updating it.
