In 1995, I was working for Best Buy. Although I worked as a computer tech fixing people's computers, most of my friends worked in the music and videogame sections, so I spent a lot of my spare time hanging out with them listening to music and trying out new games before the store opened.

Before the store opened each day, each of us walked around the store making sure each department was ready for customers. One fall day I was walking around the store when I saw someone standing at the Playstation kiosk, playing a game. It slightly startled me because it was about half an hour before opening time, so there shouldn't have been anyone in the store yet.

The guy was short; really short, like 5-foot even. He was wearing a trench coat and a hat. I walked up to the kiosk to see just who was in this store this early, and I found myself standing face to face with Gallagher, the watermelon-smashing comedian.

As it turns out, Gallagher is a big fan of videogames. He had bought a Playstation on launch day and had it installed on his tour bus, and was looking for some new games to play while he was out on the road. Joker's Comedy Club was in the same parking lot as Best Buy.

For the next half hour Gallagher and I stood there, playing Playstation and talking about videogames. I even made a lame joke while playing one game about how if you put in a secret code your character would smash a watermelon. When he asked "really?" I said "no." It was funnier in my head, I guess.

About five minutes 'til open, Gallagher took his pile of games up to the front of the store and checked out. I hadn't really thought about it before that day, but I guess even the rich and famous like to game once in a while too!
