I'm admitting this to you my friends as I hear it is the first step to recovery. I've recently picked up an old habit which I swore I never would indulge in again.

Am I talking aobut drugs? Alcohol? Chocolate Sundaes? Gambling? No. I'm still on my diet and don't indulge in any of those.

However, a buddy of mine was playing Civilization 3 the other day when I came over and a small voice in my head said, "Go ahead, you haven't played that game in a year. It'll be alright, just re-install it tonight, play a couple of hours, and then forget it. C'mon.... you can say no this time. It'll just be this one time."

However, it never is just one time. I'm a full blown addict again. I have no idea why this god damned game is so compelling. As I was trouncing France the other night and gleefully taking their capital, I thought about having to get up for work in a few hours. I figured I would just finish off their last few cities and bam, it was time to shower and go to work.

I'm truly weak and have no willpower. I'm shaking as I write this because I've been away from my precious for the last 5 minutes to write this.

Somebody, please help me. And if there's no hope for me, please tell others about me so that they may avoid my fate. :(

Alright Caesar, here I come.

Don't be sad, last summer I had that same addiction (only to GTA3)

Ways to break the spell over you...

-Lend the game to a friend
-Sell the game (I wouldn't do this though)
-Break the game (as bad as it sounds, sometimes these things must be done)

Breaking games is bad karma.

I know exactly how that is, man. I'm not sure why but it always seems to be the PC games with a strategy bent to them that grabs my attention and doesn't let go until the wee hours of morning.

I've since learned not to even start a game until Friday evenings. When I first discovered Battlezone 2 I just looked away for the monitor and it was suddenly daylight after an all-nighter. :eek 2:

Say "hi" to my new sig. Let's just say that I like Civ 3 a little too much and end it there.

I've had the same problem with the Heroes of Might and Magic Series. It got really bad with HOMM3. There were like 2 expansion packs and 4 stand alone campaigns that you could purchase, as well free downloadable campaigns through 3DO's website. I fnally had to put the game aside. I never tried HOMM4 and am afraid if I do I'll have to play through every campaign and expansion pack as well.

Just one more turn......

I know what you mean, man. Sometimes I play ET for atari 2600 for days on end. Sometimes it's Total Recall for NES. It is not unheard for me to play N64 Superman for weeks at a stretch. GBA Mortal Kombat...can't put it down. Ps2 Batman? Don't even get me started...

Only game that ever did this to me is Everquest, in the early stages, within the first couple of months of release (when EVERYBODY was a newbie). I think I ended up bending the disc till it snapped in half. I missed it for a couple of days, and then completely forgot about it.

Man, those first couple of days were hell though.

I know how you feel. Over the Christmas break, I got into playing Minesweeper... I played that game so much I could not do anything without picturing mines all over the place. It made my first week at work a living hell because I was trying to learn my job while thinking of minesweeper... It took an entire week before I stopped thinking of it...

How are you supposed to do this if your addiction is masturbating?

-Lend the penis to a friend
-Sell the penis (I wouldn't do this though)
-Break the penis (as bad as it sounds, sometimes these things must be done)

lol. Only kidding.

i no how you feel, already experienced this with several games, what makes me wonder is that they are all PC :o

i had this (just examples) with Civilization 1, Colonization (<<i still fear to fall back into that addiction), Counter-Strike, Diablo 1, Diablo 2, Eishockey Manager (Icehockey Manager on English, don't know if this one was released outside Germany) and Bundesliga Manager Hattrick (soccer manager, see icehockey manager)

The Advance Wars games have done this to me from time to time. And unfortunately, like a stem, they can be carried around with you...
