I thoroughly enjoy the MvC series. I like the gameplay, number of characters and also the large amount of unlockables. What are your opinions of this series? Do you like it or not?

I enjoy 1, but it was broken to hell. Red Venom, double War Machine, and Wolverine kinda made the game stupid. It had cool character themes though.

2 is the most popular fighting game in the US since it came out, and it is fun. It's probably more broken then 1, but due to it's format with the assists and whatnot, there's more characters that can be used. I like playing it now and then, but that's about it.

MVC 1: Loved Venom, didn't care for the style of the art though. I also never liked the "guest character" idea.. it's just so cheap, and only a press of the button. I'm glad that they scrapped it.

MVC 2: Much better, but even more of a masher with all the combos. It is alot of fun though, and I can't really complain about having 56 characters at my disposal. I don't prefer the 3-d backgrounds to the 2-d ones though.

Cable, Iron Man, Doom.

What a team. There are tons of other great combos out there. MvC2 is a great game. What is the highest combo anyone has done before? I have done a 137 once with Cable, Iron Man, and Gambit

I love both the MvC games, however 2 is the superior title by far.

Admittedly though, after 1, 2 took a bit of getting used to for me. :o

I'm not a fan of the series. Just too over the top and silly at times. I was really surprised at its popularity.

#2 is a masher, but damn it's fun. It's the 2d fighting game I have the easiest time getting people to play when they come over. Soooo over the top. Soooo many colors. *faints*

I played a lot of MVC2 on the Dreamcast (enough to unlock all the characters and backgrounds... but not all the colors), and it was okay, but certainly not the best vs fighter out there. There's just far too much chaos going on, it's hard to stick to a specific strategy with all these other characters jumping in and super moves going off every 5 seconds. I also never liked super jumping and air combos.

I really like being able to fight as Marvel characters though, and that was probably my major draw to the game.

I will always prefer the more methodical paced, yet flashy Street Fighter Alpha series. It had thought invoking play mechanics with just enough flash in the pan to deliver that final godly impact.

The VS. series is "imo" too over the top, and the original Street Fighter didn't have quite enough "flash". So I fall squarely in the middle of this genre, and prefer a mixture of both. I fall a little more on the original Street Fighter side though. ;)

MvC2 is far from a masher, make no mistake. The game involves alot of strategy and split second decision-making, as well as knowing basically what you can do against all the major characters like Cable, Storm, or Sentinel, with whatever assists they got. It's easy to get people to play though due to the fact it's pretty easy to pick up, but to get into the game, there's alot of stuff to learn and keep track of.

I still hate it though :P

MvsC1 was no more than an update for MSHvsSF which was an update for XMenvsSF. I wasn't crazy about it.

MvsC2 I play every day, without fail. I'm not joking. Home or arcade. It's such a fucking mess, that I love it.

There's skill involved, don't get me wrong. But like Tekken, you can sit down and whack buttons and still have a chance even against someone who knows what they're doing. I know this is true, I've seen it, I've done it.

Unlike Tekken, this game is fun though. :D

MvC1 was something I played all the time when I first got my Dreamcast. Back in those days, I was shocked to find that Mega Man was one of the characters, me being a great MM fan and all. Nowadays, I often use the team of Gambit and Ryu. Damn, Onslaught is a biatch to kill.

MvC2, however, is one of my favorite fighters of all time, despite some cheapness and unbalancedness here and there. Cable, Strider, and Gambit, my MAIN MEN. Or how about the team of Akuma, Juggernaut, and DAN HIBIKI?!? Yeah... I love this game. Still don't know how to play as Abyss, if that's even possible, which I somehow doubt. Ah well. Some other of my favorites: Magneto, Bison, and Thanos: Ultimate Evils Team. Guile, Captain America, and Charlie: America's Sons Team. Omega Red, Zangief, and Colossus: Dirty Ruskies Team (no offense). Cammy, Rogue, and Felicia: Charlie's Angels Team (I swear, when I finished my opponent off with a Triple Team Super Combo, they made THE perfect CA style team pose! I should have taken a picture of it... and get your brain out of the friggin' gutter). The possibilities are endless... :D

Wong would probably perfect you playing as all Rolls. Yes he is that good. :eek 2:

Good luck mashing playing anyone half way decent. They'll get you in an infinite before you can say Chicken crap.

This is probably my nerdiest quality. Like portnoyd I play this game EVERYDAY. I only miss a day or so because of homework or vacation. Even on vacation I try to spy out an arcade.

The God tiers on this game (Magneto, Storm, Cable, Sentinel) are a little cheap but they all cancel each other. Well unless its a Sent with Capcom assist which IMO is freaking cheap.

BTW Spoon- My highest combo is 999. No lie. Try the gambit glitch out.
Have Gambit/Sentinel/whoever for player 1 and Servbot (A assist)/ditto/ditto for player 2. Do servbots triple super crap. When he begins have gambit call out sentinel. Then do Gambits royal flush super. If timed right gambits super will catch 2 servbots and will never end. Thus going to 999. Simple ain't it. :P

Also- What are everyones teams for Mvc2? My main team is Magz/Sent/Capcom or Storm/Sent/Capcom. But I can play many different teams.

MvC1- Eh. Upgraded of the others. Nothing special. Wolverine had some cool infinites but everything else was blah. Chun-Li was cool though.

No offence to the MvC fans here, but it sort of ticks me off that this game gets so much tourney press yet absolutly no one wants to put in a SNK game in any of the major tournaments. both Real Bout Fatal Fury 2 and King of Fighters 2002 are highly balanced and competitive but never seem to make it into Evolution or the MWC because it's the defining notion that SNK 'can't make a good fighter'.

Yet MvC2 is broken as hell (admittedly so) and is not only in Evolution, but it's practically the featured game!

AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGH [/rant]

That being said, the game is fun to mess around with, it's just not something I care to practice when I know about all the flaws. I'd rather get more time into Capcom v. SNK 2 (mmmmm, King) or the latest KoF.

I, too play this game almost everyday. I own it for the DC but whenever I'm at the arcades I give it a go. I really need to get a good DC arcade stick because the DC controller is pure bullshit when trying to play MvC2 competitively. My main team is usually Jill/Guile/Cable or something like that with the third place character switched every so often. :)

KOF and other SNK fighters aren't in Evo because there's literally no scene. No one really played those games competitively except for a few people spread out over the US. If no one is going to play, then no one is going to go through the trouble of getting the equipment and time to do a tourney in the major events. That's the only reason. The Cannon brothers have said that they'll put KOF or whatever in Evo if people actually played it.

Case in point-there was a major KOF 2k tourney some years back when the game was current, and an arcade in Texas hyped up a huge tourney for it. Over 100 people said they'd come, but in the end the turnout consisted of about 13 people. And a number weren't even from the US.

Midwest championships this year is going to have KOF 2k3 and SvC, even though they aren't that great, people do play them. It's not a question of KOF 2k2, Real Bout 2, or Samurai Shodown 5 being awesome fighters, but like I said, there's no scene. It's not because of them being hard to get due to lack of machines and the like-Super SF2 Turbo has no good home port and machine are hard to find, but it has a scene. GGXX and VF4 have like no arcade machines in the states, but people play em on consoles as soon as they came out.

Most SNK fans just don't care about playing the games competitively.

Good point, I guess I was just misplacing my frustration on Evo when I should be directing it at the mid-low range comp players who, whenever you look around for SNK vids, scream out "SNK sucks, noob!" and tell you to emulate games or die.

I know fierceslash.com used to have some good combo and match vids to a number of SNK games, Sam Sho 2-4 combo vids, Sam Sho 5 match vids, KOF 2k3 match vids. They're redoing the main page though so their media section is down, though. Some good stuff was in there...SS2 combos hurt like madness.

I bet that if they did a study, they'd find that people with ADD or just really short attention spans were more likely to enjoy MvC2 over other fighting games. The whole game seems like it's designed for hyperactive kids who don't have the attention span to play as one character for a whole match.

I agree and disagree with that. True shit is flying around fast as lightning, but I think that you actually have to practice hardcore to get better. I want to see someone with ADD try to learn Magneto's slide infinite. The person would probably just give up and move on to some masher game. There actually is a strategy to the game, but its not like CvS2 where it is all strategy.
