Some friends of my family had bought a Super NES. I was ten at the time and this system was all the rage. Luckily, the family that had the system would watch me during the summer while my mother went to work. I spent countless hours playing The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and Super Mario World while at their home that summer.
Well, turns out that I enjoyed the system more than the family did. The father of the household discussed with my parents and then presented me with an offer - I could buy the system with three games from them for one hundred dollars.
Let me say that I have never been one to save money, but for my very own SNES I would do anything. I had my own yard sales selling off my toys; I did extra chores; I saved all the money I could. And then, one day, after scraping together all that a ten-year-old could, I had arrived at one hundred dollars. I was so proud because I earned the SNES for myself. No one could take the credit for my success but me.
I treasure my SNES now, and I shun the day that I take it for granted. Now if only I could get as dedicated about everything else in my life... oh well.
