I'm cruising around over the weekend and I stumble upon a brand new DC Mark of the Wolves for $10. I think "I know I have this but maybe I'll take it on for trade bait". For some reason I don't go through with the purchase.

I end up purchasing a different DC game that day, and when I go to log it in to I discover I don't have a Mark of the Wolves in there. So I go down to my basement and look; nope, I really don't have it.

But I could have swoorrrrnnnn that I had that game! I thought I bought that and Last Blade 2 on the same day (I do have LB2). I thought I bought it when it first came out for $20. I can picture the cover of that game with a 19.99 Gamestop sticker on it.

Ever have something like this happen to you, where you think you have an item in your collection, then discover you really don't?

I have disappearing GBA carts. I have the boxes, but somehow, the games are gone! I really miss AW2, DKC, and MK:SC :(

For the longest time I thought I had Super Breakout in the box. One day I went to grab it to play it and I didn't have it. I had seen it so many times for cheap and passed cause "I already had it".

I know exactly what you are talking about.

most recently Infiltrator for NES - I did go back to get it though.

I find myself buying more games thinking I DON'T have them than I do vice versa.

i went to go play spin jam for psx the other day and it is gone. not really a good game anyways, but just wanted to play it for a minute or two. weird thing is i was gonna make a topic about disappearing games when i came here today and this was here :hmm: *plays twilight zone music*

now if only i had a nickel for all the audio cds that have disappeared over the years. well, i'd have like $1.50 i guess. :o

i use a trifold method to keep on top of my games

1) check em off in the guide, i also printed out the 16 bit etc lists

2) palm pilot for on the hunt checking

3) obsessive shelving, i'm all about alphabetical order and find a reason to shuffle around my shelving every couple of months, this helps me visuallt recall what i have

still though i do slip up and more often buy doubles than pass over a needed game.

I can honestly say that that has NEVER happened to me. It did happen ONCE with one CD though. I've never been able to find my original printing of the "Green Jello: Cereal Killer Soundtrack" CD. It just vanished.

Goldeneye and Mario's Picross, which really pisses me off.

Not in the fact that I passed up on buying them [again], the fact that I went to go play them, and they weren't there

The "Three Little Pigs" one? I remember that...

Let me think for a moment... To the best of my knowledge, I have never lost a video game... Consequently, I'm starting to feel a little jinxed by reading these horror stories of "phantom" games.

I know for a fact that I had two copies of Mike Tyson's Punch-Out, as they were both given to me, but one has just vanished. I've looked everywhere for that cart, and it's just plain gone. Ah well.

I had an extra (beat up) R-type manual that must have been abducted by aliens, or some type of fairie folk.

This has happed to me at least a dozen times, it really sucks.

You know what is wierd, this is a phantom post. I could have sworn that I was the first reply to this thread, but I check it out again today and my post is gone. I think there is only one explination:

DP is responsable for everything "phantom." My missing post and games plus everyone else's games. No wonder this site can afford to be so sweet. Those evil bastards!!!!!

PS: Read this post quickly, it might disappear.

*Wonders out of dream-like state*

LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL

Games ive allways been pretty good with, I remember the covers all to well, and 99% of the time i know exactly whats up, so if i dont have it, but need it. It just comes home. Ive lost out to many times on something, so I just try and not let that happen anymore. And for some reason should i have a double of it, i just try and return the recently purchased ones if possible.

What ive been really bad about thought is audio Cd's. Doing the 3 store closures last year meant that i bought like 200+ cds for almost nothiing. Ive found a few duplicates so far, and i know that there are more, cause i see them in one place, then see them somewhere else in my piles. Its been driving me crazy.

Never with a game, but, with one Cd, STP-Tiny Music. Easily replaced at Cd Warehouse for 2.99, and, My bit to open NES games. I really need that damn bit.

It happens to me a lot because in High School I was foolish and loaned games out to my friends. There are at least 15 games I keep thinking I own and then remember that someone ran off with them. Hey if Anyone in Germany sees Tom Crookshank, tell him to send Mega Man 1-6 back to me in Pennsylvania. Losing those six to someone who neglects to tell me they are fleeing the country REALLY pisses me off. Now I trust no one. I won't lend out shit.

I actually did something goofy along these lines. I could've sworn I had Tron Deadly Discs from my original collection a long time ago. Couldn't find it. Tracked down a new copy in '98. Then, naturally, found my old copy.

The payoff here is that my original was DOA. ;)

I have an extra manual, too! But, mine's from a rental game. It was an accident. Maybe yours is the same?

I had two:

Donkey Kong Country 3 for SNES. The original copy just disappeared one day a few years back. I've since replaced it. Funny thing is, I found the manual that came with the original a week or two before I bought the replacement, but I haven't been able to find the manual again since.

Gran Turismo 2 for PSX. My brother borrowed it one day and lost it in his room. Never found it, even after he cleaned his entire room. My guess is that one of his friends stole it. I had to replace that too. But it was probably for the better, being that my old copy was a buggy non-GH that froze while saving my game the first time I tried to play through it, which led to a corrupted game file I had to erase, and making a backup copy of my save file on another memory card just in case (although fortunately, the freeze never happened again). I was just too cheap to replace it, so maybe it was a sign. I made sure to get a GH copy.

Back in 'the day' I was watching TV with my parents. I decided to get up, and go upstairs to play some Genesis instead. They ask me "Where are you going"? I reply "I'm going to play hockey". They calmly tell me that I don't have that game. And I sit back down again. Wonder why I even wanted to play NHL 94 in the first place (I have since gotten it)

Also, I sold a NES to one of my neighbors, and they complained it wasn't working right. So I took my nicely boxed Nintendo brand cleaning kit over and was going to give it a go. I realized that I forgot something at home, and walked over to get it. I came back to their house, and where was the cleaning kit? The box was there... Their response? "You didn't bring a cleaning kit. That's all you brought!" grrr....demmed kids...

I recently lost a pair of pants. I would have had no reason to take these pants off outside of my house. Therefore, I ask you, WTF?

There's an unclaimed pair of underpants (black Calvins) that were left behind after the last party in my flat... :hmm:

Oh and collection-wise, my DC Smash Pack disc and my Jap Soul Calibur are both missing-in-action  .

I have had this happen, but it's not really a mystery. I know my sister took it and never gave it back, and she doesn't take care of things.
