I have been working my tail off lately and I just got kind of annoyed that I am doing nothing with my money but paying off bills, so I figured I'd treat myself today. I went over to the local Toys R Us and picked up an X with a few games. I pretty much sold off everything I owned gamewise when I was out of work for nearly a year to square off my bills, so with pretty much nothing to play other than the emulated stuff on the PC, I decided to go get a new game system. I looked at what everything available today had to offer, and Xbox won me. I had a Gamecube already and while I think it's a great machine, I wanted the ability to play DVD movies on the console as well...so that ruled out me re-buying that system. PS2 is another excellent system, but I have been reading about the upcoming Doom 3 for the X and I really want to give that a go. So, the X it was. This is actually the first time I ever tried the system out. It's great! I like the fact that the game saves are stored on the HD hence no need for memory cards. I purchased the following games:

Namco Museum (I always do the classic compilations first for some reason)

Intellivision Lives
GTA Dual Pack (III and Vice City)

A small start, but I think this will keep me busy for a little while. Actually, I hope I can even find the time to putz around with these few games :) I noticed quite a few games were in the $20 range, which is absolutely great for me. I can actually manage a game a week on my pay and it won't hurt my financial situation a bit. Any suggestions?

EDIT: I should actually ask what good games should I look for that are in the $20 range? I saw quite a few at TRU...

Well, it all depends on what games you like.
If you're into party games or have a bunch of friends that are over, try Fuzion Frenzy. It usually goes fo 20 bucks.
If you're into RPG's, I'd say Morrowind, although I've never played it. But I've heard good things about it, other than the world is so extremely big that it takes forever to get to one place to the next. Morrowind goes for 30(?) Also, Knights of the Old Republic is a great game, so you should pick that up if you like RPGs too.
Next, for First Person Shooter, definitely Halo. This is like a must have for XBOX owners, so you should pick it up soon. Halo goes for 30.
If you're into action/adventure, I guess you should get Ninja Gaiden, altough that just came out, and may be a little costy. But still, I've heard very good things and I really want it. That's pretty much all so far, I too have just recently gotten an XBOX. Hope this helps.

Well I would say you picked the right time to come to the "green" side. :drinking:

So many great games can be had for a bargain that your head will probably explode at the choices. Plus all the great new games scheduled for release to really push the system to the limits will be interesting to see.

Plus, if you get the new Xbox Magazine you can get 2 months of Xbox Live for free, and it also includes a free online demo of Return to Castle Wolfenstein, though Rainbow Six 3 is MUCH better, imo. :P

Halo 2 should be a monumental occasion as well, as the delays and pushbacks for quality control only make it seem like it will be that much better. I just can't wait to see that. I also can't wait for True Fantasy, it sounds extrodinary.

Despite all that you know how great an emu system it is, so.....

enjoy.

p.s., if you don't buy Halo, and appreciate the textures, sun shining through trees, realistic physics, and hardcore gameplay, then well, oh well. It's a true testament to the power of X though. If only all games on Xbox looked that good.

Yeah, Halo should have been one of my purchases. Oh well, next week :) As for the emulation, well, I think I'm just going to stay away from it for awhile. I have a decent PC here with every rom and emulator anyone can imagine as well as a TV-Out card, so I'll leave the PC for that work. My Xbox is just going to be used for store bought games and occasionally watching a DVD movie. At a game a week I should create myself a nice collection in no time. I have been collecting games for fun and for *rarity* for many years. Now I am just going to buy games purely for my enjoyment. Just to have something fun to play when I have time off, and this seems like the system to do that with. It's like a breath of fresh air to just do that....like I used to when I was a kid :)

Btw, don't forget about the custom soundtrack option that GTA offers.

Nothing like running over pedestrians/blowing up stuff while listening to the Vienna Boy's Choir sing Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer. :pimp:

LOL LOL LOL

You sick bastard.

By the way, where can I get a copy of that song?

Bruce, get yourself on Xbox live. It's a little bit of an investment but your games will be extended indefinitely with a human player with a headset on the other side. I've never experienced anything quite like it. And it blows away the PS2 online service in terms of quality.

Then go get Unreal Tournament and prepare to get smoked.

Beyond Good and Evil.....game o' the year IMHO.

hrm..

Morrow wind does look like a good game, its $19
Oddworld $19
Shenmue II $19
Mechassault $19
Project Gotham Racing $19

these are some of the cheaper games that seem good.

Whoops, it's the International Children's Choir, not the Vienna Boy's Choir, though they sound just the same. http://www.epinions.com/musc_mu-175299

You can get the CD for $.75, lol. I tell you, that's one good christmas cd too!

Btw, you play Unreal Xbox online?! I remember when we played online PSO on Dreamcast, and I remember you saving our asses from the cave boss :help: , those were great times indeed...

Pm me sometime if you get the chance and are playing, I would love to join you guys online again and get some stuff started. I just recently got the free time back so I can hook back up to Live no problem. :)

The Sega GT 2000/JSRF combo disc is great too.

If your circuit city has any left, they should be $.01....if not, you should be able to score one for less than $10.

Unreal tournament is PC, Unreal championship is Xbox. UT2004 just came out and it's one hell of a game.

both of the Buffy: The Vampyre Slayer games
Splinter Cell (they might still have the 'Buy Prince of Persia, get SC for free' deal)

Skip Unreal and Halo on the xbox, get them on pc instead. Much better experience that way.

Mech Assault is pretty good and can be had for 20 bucks or less.

Also Crimson Skies and Project Gotham Racing 2 are both fantastic games in both 1 player and online. Those are still relatively new games though, so they won't be that cheap.

Definitely skip Unreal Championship and go for UT2004. I personally liked Halo on the X more than the PC, but that's just me.
As for the $20 buck side go for these guaranteed hits:

Shenmue 2
Splinter Cell (I think it's $20, but get it anyway. Great game.)
Mech Assault (Definite must buy.)
Morrow Wind
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Not sure if its $20, but its a great game.)

Hopefully those will keep you occupied. :)

If you take advantage of the Silt Strider/Mage Guild transportation, you can get to most major cities easily. You'll have to trek through some back-country to get to caves/ruins/shrines/etc., but what good is a game like that without some exploration? :)

And whaddya know, I happen to have a complete used copy of the original on eBay right now (I wouldn't if I didn't already have another copy). Send me a PM if you're interested and I'll sell it to you for $13 shipped. Although, you might want to go ahead and get the Game of the Year version instead if you're interested in Tribunal and Bloodmoon.

Heck, it's only a better experience on the PC when it is equipped with a decent video card, good CPU, enough memory, and enough HD space. My video card is a TNT2...which is very good for 2-D emulators, but is absolutely horrible for anything beyond that. I cannot even play GTA 3 at all on my 1gz system with this card. I was just going to go and get a new card at first, but why bother. $250 for a card and then I would have to deal with consuming HD space.

Well $250 would get you a pretty top of the line vid card, you wouldn't need to spend that much to get something to play Unreal Tournament 2004.

I hear ya though, but I just can't fathom playing fps games with any controller. You don't have nearly the quickness or accuracy.
