Hello, I'm sorry if I'm asking in the wrong place...but I have a question about my PSX system...

I have an old PSX system(model 1001 from launch day), and it works just fine but the system overheats really quick (in around an hour or two). And I know the problem is the laser being to close to the power suply, but is there anyway to keep the system from overheating so quickly without modding the system?

In the past it hasen't been that big of a deal, but I'm getting some PS1 games I plan to spend a lot of time playing...so having to let the system cool off every hour really sucks.

Thanks for replying.

I think the old solution was to turn it upside down .
That would let the air circulate better.
And it also helped if you were having problems reading discs. ;)

Really good ventilation? Put it on blocks for better airflow underneath?

stick it in the fridge...

Thanks for the ideas guys... LOL

But I've tryed a couple things that actually seem to work pretty well...

1.After about an hour or two, save your game, turn the system off, then unplug it and take the game out, then put the system sideways against a fan for a few minutes. I came back after about five minutes of having the fan on high and the system was totally cooled off. 0.0 So even though that sounds pretty stupid it works!

2.The freezer trick, even though I think omnedon was only joking... I tryed getting the PSX system pretty hot by playing for an hour and a half, then I took the system and set it in the freezer for about 10 minutes. It worked!

There wouldn't be any damaging(sp?) effects by doing this would there?

The rapid and severe temp changes of freezing it could hurt it.

Thing is, when it's already faulty, 'hurting it' becomes subjective.

We used to balance it on the side so the PSUs Heat can escape upwards - not a very stable Construction, but it never crashed and the PSX is built good enough to survive being knocked of a table in this position.
