As many of you know, ebay has gone crazy, people shelling out ungodly amounts for relatively cheap merchandise. Specifically the Playstation Final Fantasy games are selling for an exorbinant (spell???) amount, even for the GH games! I am testing this insanity with an auction. I am listing FFs 7, 8, and 9 in non-GH format, with Chronicles and Anthology (new) in GH format. The listing will be plain, with no indication of rarity or value. This lot, which cost me 40 dollars to compile, will have a starting bid at 200 USD and a BIN at 300 dollars. The results shall be as follows.

Item sells for less than BIN: Ebay is full of people with too much money who are too lazy to go to their local used games store to pick them up for cheap.

Item sells at BIN: People on ebay have lost site of value in order to obtain the item they want right away.

Item sells for more than BIN: The Apocalypse is upon us and the world shall soon end...to pay more than the BIN is a scary proposition indeed.

Item does not sell: My faith in humanity is restored. Perhaps the overzealous buyers are already satisfied, and the rest of us can live our lives in comfort with moderate prices on ebay.

the link to the auction is here:

Please, people of digitpress forums, do NOT bid on this auction! I dont want to cheat any of you out of your money, if the item does not sell and someone here wants the collection, I will sell it, but please do not get sucked into the auction.

Thanks

This is a pretty cool idea. I'll have to keep an eye on this.

I like the idea .. but there is one fatal flaw to your scheme. You don't take Paypal. Hence people who will grab a BIN in order to have what they want straight away won't bother going for your auction, because they can't just click another button and pay you.

Still, it will be an interesting experiment.

I was going to menation the same thing until I read your response. Plus another problem is that no Paypal = no buyer protection. I'd be surprised if anyone bid under these terms.

Sounds like an interesting experiment. I'm guessing that no one will bid, but that is just a guess.

I like it!!!!! But, like most others, once I read the NO Paypal, that kind of put the whammy on it....takes the steam out of the BIN proposal.....still I like it

yeah, I thought that paypal thing might hurt the BIN portion of the experiment...but unfortunately, someone has gained access to my Paypal and made many transactions that I now have to refute, so I can't use Paypal anymore...not until paypal can guarantee this wont happen again. Truly blows since I've made hundreds of transactions with paypal with no problems....Im glad every seems to be on board though.

Shady smurf, if you have a safe paypal then you SHOULD try this experiment. It would be more effective than mine...all for the sake of science!

all for the sake of science!

Or just cashing in. :D

I hope you get a bid on this. You could piece another set back together for much less.

Check this one out. It was even a featured auction.

yeah but that auction had non-GH FFT AND the GUIDE and non-gh Anthology PLUS the GUIDE. those are much rarer than the non-gh of the regular series. i've seen each of those items go for $40 a piece.

That was my point. It was a to act as a comparison to the experiment auction.

Whoa, wait a second!

I have Final Fanatasy Tactics, Final Fantasy Anthology, Final Fantasy Collection, Final Fantasy Orgins (first run), FF 7-8-9, AND all of the books for those games. All cases are in great shape, all books are in good shape. All games are non greatest hit runs, first prints.

You mean most of that stuff would go for $40 EACH? x_x

You know what would be interesting. If you had a friend bid on this and another friend out bid him. You end the auction selling it to the high bidder. I wonder how many opportunists out there would contact the outbid user trying to sell him the same games outside of eBay for his max bid.

Hell, I probably would have.

auction did not sell so there is a chance that the craziness that is ebay is subsiding...Perhaps all the insane bidders are content with what they've already got. In any case my faith in humanity has been semi-restored...Also, I've relisted the auction as a serious auction if anyone wants those games.

My ass the craziness is subsiding. Look at this. All I can say is WHY?!?!?!?!?

No claims that the items are ultra-rare, or any other such nonsense to entice a would-be buyer. Am I missing something?
