Well now this might upset Kurt and I can see why.

I got this email this morning.

Hi there, Atari 2600 Collector.
I have GOOD NEWS for a smart 2600 Collector!
I have the complete ULTRA-RARE Parker Brothers MCDONALDS 2600 PROTOTYPE PACKAGE that was recently available for sale on ebay! This item is a tremendous investment, because it is also cross-collectible with McDonalds memorabilia collectors, as well as of course being the rarest 2600 proto in existence.
I am making a proposition to a VERY SMALL, select few Collectors who might be interested in aquiring the RAREST 2600 PROTOTYPE on Earth!
You are the first Collector I am offering this package to (and you could be the last!)....

MCDONALDS 2600 PROTO SET priced at >>>>> $2,000 <<<<<<< (firm).

WHATTABARGAIN!!

As you probably know, compared to what some other, far more common, "production" games have sold for recently, this is a real bargain!
If I receive an acceptance by this evening (10/23) then I will not contact any more of the big-money Collectors on my list. If I do not hear from you, I will duplicate this offer to another Collector, until the MCDONALDS PROTO is sold.

I am not the Owner of this Prototype, I am acting as Broker for the deal. The real Owner of the fabulously rare MCDONALDS PROTOTYPE wishes to remain anonymous. The McDonalds package is exactly as pictured in the recent ebay auction that was discontinued by being closed early.

I have an ebay account under the name "XXXXXXXX" with +500 rating, so you know this offer is on the "up and up".
If you wish to accept the offer, you can either email me by "replying" to this email, or else by using my ebay ID to send an email to me.

Please let me know if you wish to be the new Owner of the MCDONALDS 2600 PROTO package

Best regards,
Ronald Mac Donald

This is what gives prototype collectors a bad name...

That is obviously not a collector but rather a business man. I'd say stay far far away because this could very well be a scam.

I would reply and ask if the EPROM inverting logic is done via a 74LS04, hehe.

First off I want to say, I am not involved with
this item in anyway (actually think its to much )
but don't see the harm in this type of sale.

I have personally been offered this type
of sale on numerous occasions and they
have come from well known collectors,
actually I am kinda sorry I did not buy
the Answer Gauntlet when it was offered
to me.

I guess what I am saying is if you
don't think the price is worth it, don't buy it.
But I for one look forward to private sales
even though I usually pay more up front,
I don't have the possibility of a bidding war.

What bothers me is he put it on ebay, saw it was getting some good bids, cancelled it, and is now trying to get double what he was asking for on ebay through private sales. The whole thing just raises a red flag in my mind. Mark my words there's something suspicious going on here...

Oh I did not realize it was the same individual who
had the auction and is now offering it through
private sales, with that information I have to agree
with you it does raise a few flags, and adds the
possibility he may not honor his agreement, which he
has just proven by ending his auction without good
cause.

I'm sorry, I know this is DREADFULLY off-topic, and I hope you don't take it offensively, Drew, but.. every time I read one of your posts, set up the way you have it with the carriage returns/line ends where they are, it makes me think of William Shatner speaking aloud....
(not to mention that in that last post, where they end, every other one pretty much rhymes! )

No offense taken, but now that
you mention it I kinda like it.

I am not sure what you guys are talking about, there is no proof at all that the instant messanger is indeed the person who bought it from Kurt and was trying to sell it on eBay. :?:

Someone else e-mailed the seller (who was the winner of Curt's auction) after he cancelled the Ebay auction. He told the guy that he had recieved some nice offers for it and wanted to know what he would pay for it. This whole thing just seems really suspicious...

Well the person who emailed me is a known established collector. He is acting as the go between but I have no reason to doubt the validity of the email or the offer it self.

That being said, I had a chance to buy it the first time it was on ebay for 1k and I thought THAT was too much. I like the paper work and its pretty neat item to have but 2k is just way way too much.
