At PhillyClassic, I was extremely surprised to find a boxed Streets of Rage 2 for SMS being sold. After getting my SMS a few months ago, I've already imported a few PAL games (Ninja Gaiden, Master of Darkness, S.C.I.) and I'm looking forward to getting even more. Streets of Rage 2 was another title I was interested in (since I have some weird fascination with 8-bit ports of 16-bit titles, just like my pirated Street Fighter III Famicom game), but quickly gave up on it when I saw it going for 30-40 euros with some time on the auctions left on www.ebay.co.uk (which is about $60-80 right now). Then I saw the game at PhillyClassic and the guy was only asking $10. I promptly picked it up and checked www.ebay.co.uk again, but the only completed auction I can find ended at just over 8 euros. Has the game lost a tremendous amount of value over the last few weeks? Did I imagine those auctions? Or was that most recent auction a fluke? The DP guide for non-U.S. games lists it at an R8, so it seems to be quite rare.....

In any case, it's still a very fun game to play that I'm proud to own; I wouldn't get rid of it no matter how much or how little it's worth. Of course, it's nowhere near as advanced as the Genesis version, but it has its own unique charms. Is this pretty much a straight port of the Game Gear Streets of Rage 2? It's also quite a bit more difficult than the Genesis version, but I'm getting better with practice.

I find the first Streets of rage on the SMS to be more enjoyable, but yes, it is rare, probably not R8 rare (I need to adjust the Euro rarities).
rarer SMS titles fluctuate HEAVILY in price, depending on how many people are looking for them at the time. a game can go for $100 once, and then sell a few months later for $10, and then never sell for higher than $20 for over a year after that.

eeeh i really hope you're talking about pounds here, not euro as 30-40 euro are only $45-60, not more

but yeah, sms prices fluctuate a lot, and ebay.co.uk prices are often totally insane (they pay triple(!!) as much for Panzer Dragoon Saga or Streets of Rage 3 as bidders on ebay.de)

I'm an idiot......yeah I meant pounds, not euros. Don't know what I was thinking when I posted that.

Hmm...I have a copy of this, think it's got a beat up Mega Drive manual inside. I haven't had a chance to play it but it's nice to read in the Online Rarity guide that it's (almost?) as good as the Genny/MD original! O_O

The Cyber Shinobi is 3? Rastan's a 4? Sagaia's a 5?

Maybe that purchase I made in the Buy and Sell forums a while back was really good after all! :O

Wouldn't this be the same as the Game gear version (which I found to be outstanding).

I thought the first one had horrific hit detection which made it overly hard. Again, I'm talking about the GG version, so I guess they could be different.

Wow, I'm surprised this topic got resurrected....

Gamereviewgod, as far as I know, the SMS and GG versions of Streets of Rage 2 are identical. Those screenshots for the review of the GG version look very similar to the SMS game, though I must say that the SMS visuals are a lot cleaner.
